Well, i understand that some people dosent have a shell rights for theirs servers, but really Only ftp upgrade?

[edit]
well all that it needed was to look and read the upgrade.php and found out that there is way to use it from commandline.
i think that it should READ at the upgrading manual(guide)

You can use SFTP - the upgrade process is primarily about uploading all the files over the top of the old ones which you can do with SFTP just fine.

Sad fact is a lot of hosts still do not provide SFTP support. :(

well, upgrade.php is not run through ftp anyway... upgrade.php -- once it is uploaded, would be run from a web browser...

you can use any method that you want to upload the upgrade files.
ftp
sftp
host file manager...

any of those will work to get the files onto your server
