Oh dear, it's gonna take me a little time to wrap my head around permissions but I'm gonna get it for sure. You've taken me this far, I will understand the permissions properly.

Thanks everyone for going this far with a nerd like me, appreciate your help a lot!

Regards.

Well, you have to realize, permissions exist in several places.

1- the permissions screen -- specific to each membergoup -- these are site-level permissions for DOING things and are treated as a default, unless overridden by
2- permissions profiles -- specific to each membergroup within the profile and assignable to specific boards -- these are permissions to do things WITHIN a board (like post, reply, poll, etc). These will override the general permissions set for boards assigned to use that profile. (in other words, you can make a single board "read only" quite easily, without affecting the other, standard permissions)

3- the BOARD modify (and setup) screens -- the check list of membergroups is for VIEWING RIGHTS ONLY.  Any membergroup checked on that screen will have permission to *SEE* that board and its contents. other permissions for the board are then drawn from whatever profile has been assigned to that board - but without the view rights, the user can not even get to that board.
