Hi there,

I have not put this into the integrations section, because I do not want to integrate the two, just co-exist.

I have a static website at https://www.theqe2story.com/ and the forum is at https://www.theqe2story.com/forum/index.php

I want to replace the static site with a Wordpress site, so I want to install Wordpress into the root.

How do I do this without breaking my SMF install?  Does anyone have advice or tips?

Thanks,

- Rob

Hello there.

You won't break anything as those two softwares are placed in diferent directories (WP in root, and SMF in "forum" dir). Also you should make new database for WP, although you can use the same database where smf currently is (but I wouldn't suggest that) with a different prefix.
As long as you use different dirs and databases nothing can go wrong. However, if you're not completely sure what you're doing - make sure you always have a backup of your forum, just in the case something goes wrong.

Actually, Dzonny, that's not quite true...

WordPress is a HOG...
it eats resources...
more importantly, if usually assumes that WordPress is the only things validly installed and some fo the "security" protocols and add-ons can intercept valid calls to scripts running in subdirectories and screw it up.

Rob...    What is your intention with using WordPress...  why?   To manage pages which will still, essentially, be (mostly) static?  If so, then I recommend moving your entire forum up a level and using a portal mod...
