Invite registration

I'm looking for registration by invite only.  I'm gonna run a bball coaching forum and only want coaches on it.  It's been done in 1.0 but not 2.0.  I'm using Timez theme from smf

Mine is by invite only but I don't use a mod. I just closed registrations and if someone is to be invited, I ask them for the username/display name they want and set their account up. Then send them a password which they can change after logging in.
