Attachments are files and have nothing to do with database.  They're stored in /attachments directory in forum root.  File names are hashed with no extension, look like this -

If you upload/download them with FileZilla, you must set transfer type to binary.

Thanks...a little over my head but will pass this on to my helper.  That format looks familiar to me, we are using Godaddy C-Panel via File Manager. May not be able to work on it tonight...

Just sinking in ::)...so I'm not looking for .jpg, .png .bmp files when seeking the previously attached photos.

File names are hashed for security reasons.  How exactly was the forum moved?

My daughter moved it for me, waiting for her response as to the procedure (we live approx 2K miles apart).  Can tell you that the move was all accomplished within Godaddy. Upgraded from the Deluxe Linux Hosting to C-Panel Hosting.

Can I safely attach a screen shot from the "attachment" folder  just so you can verify that I'm in the correct folder, or are folder names etc a concern?

Illori

as long as the folder name is attachments you are in the correct folder. SMF by default only uses that folder name for this purpose unless you configure more then one attachment folder.

Thanks folks...I'm a little more at ease now that I know the attachments are most likely there...just not being pointed to correctly.  Will work on it as time allows.  Thanks again.

OK Over the last couple of days we reloaded the ATTACHMENT folders from the previous server (Linux Deluxe Hosting - Godaddy) to the Attachment Folder in the new C-Panel upgrade (Godaddy also). Still won't open pre-upgrade pictures or avatars. The coded pictures are there in the Attachments Folder..."screenshot" attached.

* When I run the attachment/avatar utility within www.RustyBowtie.com it shows ERRORS and asks if I want SMF to fix the
problem, haven't done that yet. (screenshot also attached) Should I?

* FYI: Any new images or avatars work fine...just can't get the transferred images/avatars to open in the C-Panel hostings. If
we transfer it back to the old Linux Deluxe Hosting ...images/avatars work 100%?

* This forum is running under SMF 2.0.14  BUT "Having the EXACT same issue in my SMF 1.1.21 forum" www.3500hd.com

Thanks

How did you reload the files?  If you used an ftp program, there is a chance that files got corrupted because of the no extension

Not sure how my daughter did the transfer...but we have gone back and forth from Linux to C-Panel several times and the forum  always works back in the Linux Deluxe Hosting but not C-Panel. As mentioned the problems exits in both SMF forum versions.

if your daughter used an ftp program, then that might be the cause. the solution is to go back to the old host and set your FTP program to default to BINARY transfer method - get the files again and re-upload them again

Alright, sorry for the delay. Was able fix the photos on the one site...transferred files as suggested with Binary - worked on the SMF 2.0.14 version. Only thing still missing are the avatars. But good news, all the older photos are back.

However the other one is still not fixed. Did the same steps transferring the files with Binary, but nothing is happening. I went in the the file manager > attachment folder and unable to open them with preview. This site is running on 1.1.21 version...should that make any difference?
