error on Announcement - HELP!

Hey,

I just migrated from phpBB (though I ended up starting from scratch on SMF) and am having trouble with the 'Announce topic' feature.  Although I searched the forum, I couldn't find an answer to this one.

Why is it that when I 'Announce topic' none of my members receive notification.  I even tried emailing them directly through the Member Controls panel in the Admin Center and tried sending them email directly to their addresses and no one receives anything!  The really weird thing is that members are successfully emailed upon registering (so smtp is fine).

Help!
