Is SMF compatible with SSL?

Hi All,

I have SMF installed in a subdirectory and people on the website can access it by following a link on the website itself. The problem I have is that since adding an SSL certificate to the website, following Google's Chrome update, it doesn't load the CSS file when the link to the forum is clicked.

I have forced the loading of https: via an . htaccess file, so when someone types http: it changes to https: and I think this is the problem.

Do I have to change something within the SMF coding to avoid the problem?

Many thanks

Arantor

You should just need to change the settings for the theme so that the theme's URL is also HTTPS...

I managed to change the theme settings in admin to https: now that works fine but I have a bigger problem, I can't login now.

First I get a pop up stating

"The information you have entered on this page will be sent over an insecure connection and could be read by a third party.

Are you sure you want to send this information?"

When I click yes I get

"Your session timed out while posting. Please go back and try again."

I have tried different browsers, is there a file that I can go to and change it back to allow me to login?

Okay, an update, I was able to log back in by removing the .htaccess command to force https: I have also tried doing just //......com the problem still remains and the only way I can log back into the forum is by taking off the rewrite.

Perhaps I should exclude the forum from the rewrite?

Take the redirect out, log in, fix the URLs, put the redirect back?

Yeah, I have tried that and still the same. I think I will go for the exclude directory option on the redirect for now. Thanks for your help anyway.

If you recently updated the forum version and you are using an older theme mod, it may be an incompatibility with the smf top menu log in box and the old theme. I had the same problem updating to smf 2.0.15 recently. Time out errors were killing the log in box at the top of the forum.

I am not good at php I can't begin to tell you how to fix that, I was sobbing into my cheerios following php directions in other posts around here, but there are posts about a fix for the login issue in 2.0.15 around here somewhere written by people who do know what they're doing. Also, ditching the older theme mod and going with smf default Curve helped fix the problem too.

*PS: I could be completely off my head this might not be your problem at all but that time out error trying to log in sounds awfully familiar.
