Hi. SMF 2.1 lacks a feature to deactivate a user account. Usually, user ask for his account to be deleted, but I prefer to keep the account and simply deactivate it. What do you think about creating a mod that allows deactivating an account, and then for example automatically reactivates it when the user tries to log in? Is such a feature in SMF 2.1 possible?

In the mod database I found only such a mod that can do this, but it is for version 2.0

@vbgamer45

Does your mod do exactly what I asked?

Kindred

this already happens....

if a user asks to delete their account, then it's placed in a "pending" queue -- essentially deactivated, unless the user logs in again.

If you mean something else, then you will have to be much more specific about what YOU think "deactivated" means.

Kindred you mean to tell me that such a feature will be implemented in SMF 2.1? In which version will this feature be available?

Kindred

No..i mean that the software has acted like this since 1.0

I would like to ask how I can enable the "pending" period for a user account so that it is marked as "pending" for deletion. I want the account to be deactivated, but not immediately deleted. Could you please let me know how to set this up?

this feature only exists if you let users elect to delete their account but needs admin approval.

jsx

I can enable this feature for a group in Permissions > Account Deletion - correct?

Illori

yes but make sure you have it set that account deletions need admin approval first or they will get deleted automatically. also do note that if you dont approve them for deletion they will stay on the list forever.

jsx

This is exactly the function I was looking for. Thank you for your help!

Message for others:

This option must be enabled so that the request to delete the account goes to the queue.

Admin > Maintenance > Server Settings > Security > Require admin approval when member deletes account

But honestly, in SMF 2.1, such a feature would be useful that would allow the admin to deactivate a user's account from the admin panel.

Kindred

Why? What purpose would it serve?

You can create a membegroup with no access if you feel it necessary to do that

Usually, a user sends a private message asking to delete the account. Now I know that I can write back to him that the option to delete (suspend) the account is enabled in the account settings. My point in the previous post was that if such a function existed in the admin panel, then as an admin I could write back to the user that I will suspend his account, and he can always return to the forum if he logs in again. In general, I am glad that the function of deleting accounts with Waiting List exists in SMF.
