SMF 2.1.2
install.php
Step 1: Welcome
Step 2: Writable check
Step 3: Database Settings
Step 4: Forum Settings

Enable SSL:  [] Force SSL throughout the forum

The check box for this setting is disabled.
Does this have any special meaning?

I think if your forum is on https, you should check this, else leave unchecked.

It's a setting you can get back to later once the forum is actually installed, so at this point don't worry about it too much. Incorrectly turning it on when SSL isn't properly set up may also mean your forum will not function, so not turning it on at this point is the safer option when in doubt.

It will be disabled if you don't have an SSL certificate installed.

Note that changing the setting will also be disabled, with the option selected (forced to on), if a cert is found and an https redirect is active.

I.e., it won't let you disable https if an https redirect is detected.  Or bad things happen...
