How to get 2.0.19 to update to 2.1.4

I have the following:



MAIN: 2.0.19 (linux server) with a bunch of packages which is what I depend on
Clean: 2.0.19 (windows/apache) fully clean version - used as a local

Both 2.0.19 have the same data where clean has zero packages installed.

for updating to 2.1.4, am getting similar results.

GOAL: is to update to 2.1.4 with the database from MAIN:2.0.19  - basically I want the data and boards transferred to 2.1.4 - I accept having to update or lose packages


Problem:  I have run out of options on how to update 2.0.19 -> 2.1.4

I have tried the following:

Package Manager > Download Package > Upload a Package
Where I tried to load smf_2-1-4_upgrade.zip
Both versions (Main/Clean) give me the same result:

Although the package was downloaded to the server it appears to be empty.
Please check the Packages directory, and the "temp" sub-directory are both writable.
 If you continue to experience this problem you should try extracting the package on your PC and uploading the extracted files into a subdirectory in your Packages directory and try again.
For example, if the package was called shout.tar.gz you should:
1) Download the package to your local PC and extract it into files.
2) Using an FTP client create a new directory in your "Packages" folder, in this example you may call it "shout".
3) Upload all the files from the extracted package to this directory.
4) Go back to the package manager browse page and the package will be automatically found by SMF.

Now I have tried this several times on both MAIN and CLEAN
The folders of Packages is set for anything to place/run/execute data nothing changes outcome.
TEMP- I assume a "temp" folder within Packages, which I also gave 777 or windows full control security.

Same results.

I have tried the unzipping of the contents and putting it into a folder called "smf_2-1-4_upgrade" with the upgrade contents unzipped --- again failure

The Package Manager NEVER seems to find it on MAIN or CLEAN

so how do I upgrade from 2.0.19 at this point?

Patches are installed in the package manager, upgrades are not.
You need to overwrite your files with the contents of smf_2-1-4_upgrade, and then run it from {url}/upgrade.php

Yes, that makes sense - there was an upgrade page on SMF that said using package manager, I will find it later.

Now I tested in local and Main but it got stuck on Step 6 where it says
conversion complete - click continue to proceed
its odd step progress said only 55% while overall was 85%
but continue never lights up to allow a click for it.   

What I did is in url change ?step=4.... to step=5-but it remains in STEP 6: convert to UTF-8 - seemed stuck on table: log search subjects

it depends on the size of your database and how fast your server is.

That's a really bad idea, could corrupt the database.  Was forum language set to english before you started upgrade?

I ended up wiping db and replacing it with back up db/including using backed up settings.php - I converted to UTF8 myself on db all the tables, and looked specifically at the table where it kept getting hung up on which was that log subject one.  I ended clearing it out and that seemed to fix the issue now am seeing 2.1.4 live.
