Hey there recently the link to the packages manager and some mods have stopped working for no reason. Also the backup button does the same thing, I click backup under "Forum Maintenance - Backup Database" and it downloads a blank index.php file. ???

I tried "Find and repair any errors." also under "Forum Maintenence" and it says there are no errors.

I search for answers and only found someone with the same problem unanswered:

Using SMF 1.1.1, although I upgraded from RC3 in effort that it might fix this problem. It did not.

I would appreciate help as the forum has hundreds of posters waiting for me to fix this lol.

This just happened? Can you check if the problem with accessing the packagemanager is fixed if you removed the last installed package (the actual zip or tar file) from the /Packages directory?

Also, check with your host if they made any changes recently.

Are there any errors in your log?

well it happened within the last two days. I was made an admin yesterday for the purpose of adding a bridge to mambo (haven't yet) and basic maintenance stuff since the other admins are usually busy.

I don't remember messing with anything being unfamiliar with the admincp other then the
optimize tables option which went fine.

Heres the latest error log stuff:

hxxp:xs313.xs.to/xs313/07136/error2.gif [nonactive]

I'm not sure if it is related or not. I think the ones from today are related to the spoiler tag mod not working.

I click backup under "Forum Maintenance - Backup Database" and it downloads a blank index.php file.

Ive got that a couple of times too, try unchecking the "Compress the file with gzip" box, that's how i fixed it.

still looking for help...

its relatively important, because without the package manager I cant do anything pertaining to mods whatsoever and my position is useless. I need to get this fixed no matter the time it takes.

Let me rephrase my problem.

I login to the admin panel. I click packages, it does nothing. 10 second later firefox asks me to download a blank file called index.php. In IE clicking does nothing.

The same thing happens when I click the button to download a backup of the database. I click and it gives me a blank index.php file. I can back up using my mysql manager to backup my db so thats no big deal but how will I go forward?

My spoiler mod is no longer working. Everything else seems to be working.

However I really need ideas to fix this. I have tried the various options in repair_settings.php to no avail. I have upgraded the forum in effort it might fix this, nothing. I will check back tomorrow in hopes someone replys.

Please check with your host to confirm there aren't any problems with the server. This happens to me sometimes when the loadtime is very slow. It looks like the loadtime is larger then allowed.

we are using a dedicated server, I heard something about apache problems but I'm not sure if they are related.

Got some more server info

Forum version: SMF 1.1.1
PHP version: 5.0.4
MySQL version: 4.1.20
Server version: Apache/2.0.54 (Fedora)

Honestly, I have no idea what to tell you about serverconfiguration, that's why I'm still on a shared server.  ;)

If you want to rule out the possibility of any mods or corrupt files causing this, try installing a testforum on the same server. If an empty forum works, try connecting it to your current database and see if the problem persists.

i would check your webserver's logs and see if they say anything useful.
