Is it possible to modify search bot to work without bridge?

I'm not sure what you mean by work without the bridge? Do you mean you'll essentially have two different applications, Joomla and SMF, on the same site with no connection? If that's what you mean, then it would require quite a rewrite. It would still be possible - there's nothing magic about the SQL queries I use - but you would need to drastically change which files are included and how.
