hello I understand, but I wasnt sure where to put the code.  this is not any fault of you but I am clueless.  I wasnt sure in the readme if it meant replace some other code or just put it in ahead of existing code, and since I have limited knowledge, didnt attempt it.

Thank you very much, that seems to have solved some problems.

I wonder if you can help me further?

I have tried to log in to the forum on IE, opera and firefox and the login box is good :)

however the forum stretches as wide as it needs to be in both firefox and opera but in IE the navigation bar stretches as far as it needs but the forum boards and the user box (hello user, smf forum, date etc) above it, stay narrower than the navigation bar. So its narrow, wide, narrow and so it looks kinda strange ???

Do you know how to fix this?  90% of our users use IE :(

I've been at this all day and it gets tiring, especially if you dont really know what you are doing :(

I did need to set up the redirection but then kindred said he hadnt tried the code so I was worried

Kindred

I suggest that you take a look at some of the SMF themes that we have designed specifically for joomla wrapped sites...  Xenovanis has done some really nice ones.

Hi

This is an absolute nightmare!

I switched the site back on yesterday after I did all the work and all I have had is complains that no one can read the forum!

I am using the planetfall joomla theme - black background, orange and white fonts.   On the forum I am using black background and orange and white fonts.

But all I have had is emails from members who say the site is black background with black fonts and no one can see anything without highlighting it to read it!!!

I have tested it in firefox, opera and IE and I can see it the way it is meant to be.

I dont understand what is wrong or how to fix it

It's all very depressing :(

"I'm just wondering if you're going to change the colors because I can't see any of the writing in the posts or the buttons without highlighting them. "

"Unless people post in the new posts or replies to my posts,
I can't find anything at all.
Where did all of the posts go? Or the Book club?
I hope that it is just the redesiign and not me completely missing everything.
It is all green... "

people think it's THEIR browser but I have tested in all three?

-----------------------

I was logged in last night, and I tried to go to the download area from the menu to upload a file, and it told me I had to login first. But I WAS logged in.  I had to log out and login in again before it would let me access the downloads.

-----------------------

The width of the forum seems to adapt to the right width in firefox and opera but in IE its horrible, really narrow but the navigation bar is the correct width.

---------------------

I also have 60 pages of errors in the forum error log

they seem to be mainly:

Can someone tell me how to undone everything and start again, it just seems like such a mess.

Also people seem to be confused with the forum being wrapped too, but all these problems probably don't help. I wish I hadnt started it now.

Everything seems messed up and I dont know how to fix it :(

*cries*

Kindred

ok...   First of all, the SA error is covered in the combined readme post.

Next, I suspect your template errors (bad colours) are because you did not reset everyone to use your new template..

As for the template width problems... yup...  it's an issue with nearly ANY variable with template.  The quick and dirty fix is to change the variable width to a fixed width in your joomla/template/templatename/index.php

-edit- please don't clutter up general posts with specific questions... especially when you have your own thread dedicated to assisting you. :)
I have merged your question from the other post into this one...

I am having a number of problems which I have posted about in another thread, but meantime does anyone know how to solve this

Joomla 1.0.7, Smf 1.1 rc2 wrapped, bridge 3.20

The first screenshot is how it looks in firefox and opera - these browsers seem to allow the forum to be the right size

the second screenshot is how it looks in IE - the only thing that is the right size is the navigation bar, the user box and the boards are too narrow and not as wide as the navigation tabbed bar

I know a lot of people dont like IE and will just tell me to use another browser.  I *do* but the majority of members use IE, so I would like to make this better for them.

perplexed

hi Kindred and thanks

I found the sa error.  I only read the part of that thread that said it was for RC2 so I didnt notice that.  I have made the change

About the black font on black background viewing problems, if you mean reset everyone to use smf theme, then yes I did that.  They are all on the same theme as me and do not have the option to change it just now. So I dont understand why they are having such problems when for me, it is good in three browsers. :(

I dont know how to change variable widths, I dont have much experience with coding :(

And I dont understand why part of the smf forum is showing at the full size and the other two sections are narrow in IE, it looks really bad :(

anyway thanks for your help, tiny portal was much easier.  I will keep trying but I am a novice.

hello

I thought I was good but I just tried to test out the registration process and I cant register :(

I get a 'you are not authorised to view this resource' message and told to log in

I cleared cookies, cache etc and tried again but got the same message

Here are my smf bridge details

smf login - public

smf registration - require agreement

bridge - use bridge registration

It was a little strange a few days ago as Kindred was able to just register immediately even though I have registration approval in place on the forum but now when I try to register, it wont let me?  I havent changed any settings.

Orstio

If you are already logged in, it won't allow you to register.  It will also not let you register during the same session from which you were logged in.

Only one username per one user....

perplexed

Ah ok I see. thanks.

I had some time off so I am just getting back to my site again... to a whole list of complaints/queries lol

There is a problem with 'quotes'  If someone is reading a thread and clicks 'quote' to quote the post it takes you to the quick reply box but does not give you the quoted post.

If I hold my cursor over the 'quote' button it says for example:

http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_smf&itemid=46&action=post;quote=35493;topic=1885.0;num_replies=3;sesc=63023a39cb5984a5f566a82fff6d593f

but it does not load the quoted post.

If I go to 'preview' and select posts to quote from the multiquote option, then that works fine.  Quote also works from PMs but it is not working with quick reply.

there were a lot of complaints about that.

-------

The member map is not displaying a map to allow you to click on it to mark your location.  This was working perfectly before the bridge.  I confess I didnt check it to see if it was working last week, I only clicked to make sure you could see the pins on the map, so assumed it was ok.  But if you try to add a pin to the map, it doesnt give you a map, so you cant add a pin. It then says you must click on the map to add your pin, but no map displayed.  There are a whole bunch of undefined errors in the error log relating to this now:

http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=46&action=mm;sa=edit2
You have to click somewhere on the map to place your pin.

http://www.mysite.com/forum/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=46&action=mm;sa=edit
8: Undefined index: map
File: /home/mysite/public_html/forum/Themes/default/MemberMap.template.php (edit sub template - eval?)
Line: 183

and these too, same error message different line:

Line: 182

Line: 181

Line: 180

Line: 179

Line: 178

Line: 169

Line: 115

-------------

I also confess to not knowing what these itemids are but I noticed that I have different ones in different browsers?  It has Itemid=46 in firefox and Itemid=39 in internet explorer.  Is that a problem?

-------------

The other major problem that I have that is annoying people is the width of the forum in IE.  It is way too narrow, making the fonts smaller and putting scroll bars around the avatars which looks horrible, and people are asking if they now have to make avatars a different size - which we dont want to do.  Kindred gave me some suggestions for changing the index.template.php but that didnt change anything.  :(

The site is the correct size/width in opera and firefox but most of the users are using IE so it is still a big problem for me.  I am using the default RC2 theme and the planetfall joomla template which is variable width and does stretch in other browsers to give the forum enough room.

the only part that is stretching to the full width in IE is the navigation bar, the boards below the nav bar and the user info box above it are about an inch narrower (on my computer)

It is frustrating the hell out of everyone as people are complaining about the font sizes, the avatar sizes, not to mention that it looks awful.

IE must do/not do something that the other browsers can do but I dont know enough about it to know what that might be.

I am considering bribery and corruption now if someone will help me fix this.     *hates internet explorer*

------

I am also getting vertical scroll bars on posts and it seems to be on all browsers.  What I dont understand is that the scroll bar is the length of the post but you can see the whole post ie you dont need to scroll up and down to see parts of the post.  It just seems to have a scroll bar for no reason ???

perplexed

I am thinking of unwrapping my forum as this problem with internet explorer is really starting to annoy people.

Is there a way I can still keep the joomla top menu across the top of the forum so I can maintain a link to the rest of the joomla site so people will still be able to access it and remember there is more outside the forum?

~thanks

Kindred

yes and no...  you can create a whole new header.php file and use the SSI layers to do the header plus your forum (that's what the joomla site and forums do)

ok thanks.

I have no idea what you just said lol. :(  sorry for wasting so much of your time with this.
I will set aside some time to try and work this out.
thanks for your help
I think I need a course or something

perplexed

I'm sorry but I'm still having some problems :(

I seem to have managed to fix most things but there are still a couple of things that arent working as they used to prior to the bridge.

1.  quoting from another post doesnt work.
If you try to click on the quote button in someone's post, it just takes you to the quick reply box but does not quote the post.  The other options that are available to moderators (modify, remove, split topic) all work but the quote button isnt.
If I hold my cursor over the quote button, it shows:

http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=43&action=post;quote=36283;topic=490.45;num_replies=59;sesc=19d52f8b7c2eefcdec668791a6124465

but when I click on 'quote' it displays this:

http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=43&topic=490.msg36284#quickreply

Do you know what it is doing and how to fix it ???

2.  the member maps are not displaying for the member map mod
the member map mod was working perfectly prior to bridging the forum.  the problem now is that when you click on member map tab, you go to the member map mod to add your pin to a map.  However, no maps are displaying now when they should be.  So you cant add your pin.   you just get an error message saying that you have to click on the map (which isnt there)

If you could help me fix these problems I really would appreciate it

~thanks in advance
