I've seen only one discussion of this on the board, so though that I'd post it here.
I would like to to see a pop up (using javascript probably) that pops up when you click on the URL/hyperlink button and has the user input the web address and the text they want to show.
Several reasons for this are:
Really long URLs don't break on line breaks and screw up forum formatting, extending out of the post boxes, or making them wider than they should be.
Makes it easier for the user to add the link.
The discussion (with about 3 posts in it, on the feedback forum), basically puts this idea down because the people responding to it have experience with forums, BB code, and HTML code.  So while this is just great for them, it's not so great for the people who aren't so technically adept--which is about 90% of forums users nowadays.
I think that it's ridiculous to make a user go through the trouble of learning all this just to post a link that doesn't look funky, and they shouldn't have to, unless they came to a board to specifically learn about this kind of stuff.
This has been implemented on IPB for several years, and vbulletin does it in a half-assed way, I think sMF could do it better.
So I would love to see this included in SMF, and look forward to responses here.  If it gets refused, I wouldn't mind if someone pointed me in the right direction for doing a mod, which I've started on, but having limited time, can't work on it as much as I'd like.

Found more doing a different search.  There's a mod that'll do this here:

Still would like to see this in the official SMF. :D

Totally agree - our forum is a food related one and only a few know any html. The url button would be great to have a pop up that let them enter the link, and also the display text.

Cheers,
