Just curious if it is a bad idea to use a copy of the login module, set to "registered", and used for display on pages that the original login module is not displayed on.

I have done this, and have not seen a problem yet.... but I'm still new to all this, and wanted to check and see if this may cause a problem that I am not seeing yet!

Thanks for any input!

I don't understand why you just don't display the regular module on all pages?

It's an aesthetic choice.
Personally, I don't like having a login module on the frontpage of the website.  Not for this website at least.
I do, however, like having the info displayed once a registered user logs in.
