Signature image restrictions

Okay, one more stupid newbie question.

Does SMF place automated restrictions on images in signatures? I have a member with a banner in his signature, but it seems to have been resized to 100x26 in the code (img width=100 height=26), and all attempts to remove these size attributes result in them being added again automatically. However, I've seen other members with bigger signature images than that... I thought what was supposed to happen when a signature was too wide/high was that a scrollbar was supposed to be added to the table cell containing the signature?

If you try to post an image bigger than the limits, it resizes it for you.

Make sure you have not set any size limitting.

But... But... I thought that didn't apply to signatures. Clearly I was mistaken. Ah well, thanks a lot!
