If anyone has an install package for IPB 1.2, please let me know. I can work on a converter, but I need something running to test with. A backup from IPB 1.2 is also needed.

Prof, can you provide a backup/SQL dump of your forum?

Compressed? If not, try compressing it, you'll often get 10:1 compression. I can always provide an FTP account for you to upload to.

I too would be interested in a converter from phpBB2 with Categories Heirarchy and Topic Calendar mods installed. I did see some talk about this on another thread and it seemed some work had been put into this conversion for an earlier RC version of SMF, but as it's not listed in the converters I guess it either never reached completion or no longer works.

How much changes in the db from the base phpBB format? Are there major changes in the mods themselves between versions? (Basically, I'm trying to figure out how much work it will be to develop and maintain.)

Thanks in advace

Unless they give you the data files, you probably won't be able to convert.

Xsorbit say they will give me a backup copy of my forum would this include the files that are required to do a convertion

Hard to say from where I'm sitting, but as CH adds nestable subforums and also changes the administration panel completely I would guess the structure differs fairly widely from the vanilla, even before you consider the calendar add-on. The file structure of phpBB is changed making it very difficult to add other mods as some of the files needed for them no longer exist.

On the plus side, however, maintenance shouldn't be a problem once it's done as phpBB 3 will negate any need for CH so there are going to be no more major versions, just small bug fix changes to the code if needed.

I'm fairly sure it was Oldiesmann who was attempting it in the previous post so may be better to ask him as he would know the technicalities of it better than I.

andy I think you might be able to use the yabb converter if you get the files.

i tried phpbb2 but it doesnt work

Which version of phpBB 1? It's still available for download, so if you can give me a specific version number, I might be able to help you.

i hope (even its already obsolete) you'll still create IPB 1.2 to SMF converter coz some admins still uses IPB 1.2 and would like to transfer to SMF.

Send me a copy of a db dump from IPB 1.2 and I'll see what I can do.

maritimesbob

An IPB 2.2 converter would be nice :) I`ve tried the 2.1 version and it works to an extent, but then fails from the poll conversion almost through until the end. Thanks.

JayBachatero

I'll be looking into the IPB and vB ones this week.

Thanks Jay,

I know it`s a bit early to ask especially as you haven`t done it yet! Do you have you any idea what the converter will convert?

If you need a 2.2 database to work from give me a shout :)

JayBachatero

Well it should convert what ever the 2.x converters.  I think I might need a database to test it on.  I'll let you know.

Oldiesmann

If you could post exactly what errors you're getting with the 2.1 converter (recently updated to fix a couple of typos), I'll see if I can get it working for you.
