Restricting viewing and membership to a section

I want to provide a section for retired members of an organisation so that they can post events, mention functions and even deaths etc. to save costs on postage, paper etc.

How do I go about setting permissions for this group so that other members of the forum cannot see or access the posts.

You want to set the permissions for that forum from global to local.  You want to set it up that all other groups other than "retired" cannot see the forum.  You can do some other things.  I have this set up on my router.  I have the discussions so that only certain people can see it by setting it up that certain groups can see that forum and others cant.

Thanks for your help Michael.  I've been able to stop other members from seeing the board by adjusting permission from global to local.
