it is related to two things... the first is the thumbnail size the second is permissions..

If you choose to resize you picture then the red x appears... but if you give all permissions... see music.. see videos.. etc.. then the resized images shows again and the bug is gone.. so i went with that solution..  :)

Feel free to check my site but BE WARNED about the ADULT CONTENT: http://gapeindex.dk/index.php?action=mediacenter;sa=images;sort=subject;mediaboards=30,40,55

Hm... Thats weird. I have given all permissions + the resize option on and still the X's appears sometimes. And really sometimes. Because Not on all pics  and thats independent if it's gif or Jpg.

*EDIT*

My latest news is I discovered something really freaky right now. I looked again at the permissions and everyone is allowed to use the mediacenter.

So now I disabled the resizing option and all pics can be  seen in their original format. But the freaky thing now is that when I click a picture it opens in a popup screen in the Thumbnail size!! Weird eh?

Have a look: http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=mediacenter

Look at my site now.  I removed the thumbnail settings and they still show.

On your site i see images on the original size now. Check the Screenshot.

Your images are not appearing as thumbnails--they window they appear in has been resized to thumbnail size.  If you drag the corner of it, you can see the whole image.  Maybe this is a problem with your thumbnail creation, rather than this mod?

I've thought of a better way to sort than by date of attachment.  Sorting by date of post would be much easier, since you can just compare the number of the post topic, right?  Then you send the file right along with it.

EDIT:
If you just replace the value used in the "Subject" sort ('subject') with 'id' (both in the 'topic' array), I think it would work.

EDIT2:  $row['ID_TOPIC'] gets used, you could sort with that if it was in an array, right?

I know how to enlarge windows, ;D but in this one resizing dragging the corner of it didnt work and there was no reason either to resize the window.

But Thats not exactly the point, was just mentioning it . I had taken the resize option away again. Sorry for that, might be confusing. But will put it back again for you guys to see. :D

It's back now and you will see thumbnails sometimes.

Ok this x error is weird.  I just browsed as a guest and they all show.  Can you take an output of the html source and post it?

Jay is the master so lets give him a little time to think people.
And still lots of respect as its still a great mod only few things seem not tot do like we would like but it might even be site related like on some sites it does work and on others it dont.

Cannot post the html output in a message as it's too big but made you a text file.

Hi Jay,

I talked with a friend/collegue of mine thats quit good in scripting and he made me aware of the following.

There might be something in the adressing that can be seen when you call the images:

The image does load (original size).
http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=mediacenterfile;attach=54;image

The thumbnail does not appear:
http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=mediacenterfile;attach=313;image

And this guy is talking about that there might not be made resized images when uploading a picture. And that made ring a bell to me!!!  :D Cause there are resized image.

The actual resized image should be at: http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=953.0;attach=391;image

Just a suggestion.  ;)

Yo people,

I just discovered another thing here.

When the topic of a picture thats giving the redcross thingy is being opened and you hit the back button of the browser the image will appear  in the mediacenter!

Freaky aint it?

NOTE
Dont worry about deleting messages of me  if you think im really talking nonsense. I think so myself sometimes   :-X

I was thinking permissions, but then I imagine you are using Admin permissions and it wouldn't be a problem.  I was thinking that if a person didn't have the permissions to view the topic, they weren't allowed to until they actually did . . . which makes no sense.

Maybe it has something to do with the cache?

EDIT:  This is the thumbnail you are seeing, correct?  Is there some weird function in SMF that creates a thumbnail on the fly if someone needs it (for viewing a thread) if one doesn't already exist?

The thumbnail your seing? i dont now what the idea is but I guess it should be.

Like here:

The thumb in mediacenter looks for:
http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=mediacenterfile;attach=314;image

When opened in mediacenter it shows:
http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=mediacenterfile;attach=55;image

Original thumb in the message is:
http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=956.0;attach=392;image

The message it comes from is:
http://www.muziek4um.nl/index.php?topic=956.msg4470#msg4470

And note that once the original message is being dislayed the thumb will show in mediacenter. :D

*EDIT* Yes there is this resize on the fly function in smf :D And I didnt always use it...

Well, I figure that Jay is working on it somewhere, but for the moment I am teaching myself php and trying to deconstruct the code.

HRM:  I think I see what you mean.  I don't know why, but it looks like Media Center is identifying attachments in a different way than SMF does.

I see what is going on!  If you originally have everything display full size, there is no need to create thumbnails, so SMF doesn't.  When you turn it on to look at a post, SMF creates those thumbnails on the fly, gives them a new 'attach=' number (the next one in line after you last attached something), and relates them back to the original file.

If you have thumbnails off, these thumbnails haven't been created by SMF, and they will not show in Media Center, because Media Center uses SMF's thumbnails.  So when you look in Media Center, you don't see a thumbnail for any attachment to a thread that nobody has looked at (and therefore forced a thumbnail creation).

!!! I think that's it.  Now just to fix it. !!!

I have thumbnails on, but in media center some pictures are X ...

I'm attaching another set of examples, maybe this can help inspire you to find the solution :D

dakotaroar

adynis:

Did you always have thumbnails on, or did you just turn them on recently?

SMF does not make thumbnails when you turn thumbnails on.  It makes them when they are needed, e.g., when their parent thread is viewed.  Therefore, if you have not viewed each thread containing attachments since you turned attachments on, SMF will not have created any thumbnails, and you will not see thumbnails in Media Center.

Compare the number of files when you browse your attachments (through SMF) at
. . . index.php?action=manageattachments;sa=browse;sort=date
and when you browse the thumbnails at
. . . index.php?action=manageattachments;sa=browse;thumbs;sort=date

Disregarding any non-image files, there should be an equal number.  If you have fewer thumbnails, I assume that your problem is as stated above.

(Actually, HRM, could you do the same?  I'm wondering if this still makes sense.)

This is too much for me :(

Yes, I had thumbnails on from the begining (about 3 or 4 months when I upgraded from vbulletin to smf)

I tried another thing: I've entered the link of one X picture and in the SMF parent thread the thumbnail appeard; Then I went again in Media Center, the same page to see if the thumbnail (that was just created in the thread page) appears ... but there is no difference ...
I hope I'm not making a mistake some place else...

Also in Admin, at Thumbnails I have 12 pages and i get only the list with the thumbnails files; If i click one, it works.... In media center I heve also 12 pages.
In Attachments I have 18 pages.

later edit:
........./index.php?action=dlattach;topic=58.0;attach=437;image -> this is working, it opens the thumbnail

........./index.php?action=mediacenterfile;attach=437;image -> this is not working, it shows the X

dakotaroar

I've never heard anyone call moving from vBulletin to SMF an 'upgrade' (no offense intended).

I think you are doing the right thing.  I guess I was either wrong when I guessed that this was the answer, or you just have a different problem.  I'll think about it some more, but we can all hope that Jay gets back in here with a solution for everything  :)
