Membergroups feature help

Dear smf users, I love smf instead of the usual phpbb but I dont want t have to use phpbb just because of this problem.

I have a forum, it has a public forum and a private forum. The private boards  have assigned to a certain membergroup.

The problem is when a person who does not belong to the membergroup signs in the forum looks empty because the private board as not visible. How do I make ALL the board visible to everyone?
I know in phpbb you can make all the boards visible to everyone, but when a member tries to access the board it will say 'access denied' or 'members only please' or something to that effect.

Can someone help?
