SMF Version: SMF 1.1.1
I upgraded my site about a month ago to SMF from PHPBB.  Everything is working fine except EMAIL.  Can someone  please point me in the right direction?

Kindred

please be more specific in your problem description....

WHAT is not working with the email?
Are the emails not sending at all?
are the links in the email bad?
are some emails sending and others not?

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Sorry about that...

Yes, no emails at all.  No PM's, Post Notify, Activation, etc.  I'm getting nothing.  I have it setup as PHP mail.  This worked on my PHPBB setup prior to the migration.

Any errors in SMF error log?

SMF sends mail with the default php function of mail which uses that servers sendmail application.
Did you check that servers sendmail application for errors?
Did you ask your host if there are mail server troubles?

I have a big problem here and I really need your help!  The problem is email functionality from my site is not working.  Sendmail (php) I believe requires the ISP to do something on it's side to allow this work.  However I contact them and I get no response.  I do believe this company is going under, but is required to keep the site up for xdays, because I'm still running.

I switched to SMTP to use my mail server on this site also and I'm getting the 502 message.  After searching the forums I found that my server doesn't like this type of login.  Can anyone help me out until I've allocated some time to move my entire site new a new ISP?

Thanks,
-JC

if neither sendmail nor smtp are working on your server, then theres not much any of us could do without you being able to install a mail handler and modify the code of the software, the former of which nobody except the root of the server could do.

My best reccommendation though, is not to procrastinate if you feel your host is going under, because once you lose that data, it is GONE, impossible to get back.  I have had this happen with a host who disappeared off the face of the planet... lost a database with nearly million posts in it.

I would reccommend getting off there and finding a new host.

One that i've used in the past is SurPass Hosting And they seem to function decently well, but i would highly highly suggest hitting up th e Hosts and Hosting board!

also, take a gander at this topic, as it clearly details everything you need to know about moving to a new server :)

Thanks for the information.  I am targeting a two week turn-around to move to another ISP.  I'm currently looking at 1and1 as my provider, but will look over the Host and Hosting site.

My work-around right now is that I point the smtp mail to my local internet email provider.  I'm sure after 100x of emails they'll question it and lock my account, but for now it's working.

by the way, the site is infinology is the current provider that is going under if not already under!

Thanks,
-JC
