would you mind explaining your suggestions a little bit.  Someone else might not have the same thoughts you do pertaining your suggestions

2.) For what?
3.) That is just more unnecessary javascript/ajax, and really isn't worth the overhead of the 'cool' factor, IMO.

Also another very important feature would be a "search inside this forum"

You can already search within specific boards by using the more advanced options link on the search page.

Personally, I hate threaded view. I prefer plain old Linear. I'd rather not see it there, selectable or otherwise.

And I dont think that animations when the loading message is displayed is any useful, it'd really just be a novelty.

And for number 2 dropdowns for what? You need to be specific on any request you're after.

and I will note that just about everything you list is Theme/template specific and has nothing to do with the actual source.

So... if you want those things, then go ahead and build a theme that does them.

my one huge feature request is to have another way of handling upgrades other than through an insecure FTP login.  for that to work for me, i'd need to enable root access with an FTP account (not even SFTP!!), with passwords being sent in cleartext.  i run my server from a remote Debian (Etch/testing) server where several admins have full root access, and we are very careful about what we broadcast in cleartext.

i suppose one way to tackle this problem is having the ability to upgrade or install mods with a PHP in CLI.  i am able to do that with my mediawiki installation, which is also based in PHP and MySQL, so i'm not sure how hard it would be for you guys to implement but it would REALLY make some of our lives a lot easier.  i am now able to somewhat parse the various mod XML files so i know exactly what needs to be done to make a mod work, but even for the simple point releases you have for the main SMF branch are a headache and a half to unzip to the right directories and such only using CLI before i am even able to run the UPGRADE.PHP files thru a browser.  having an automated CLI system to handle upgrades, or perhaps an updated web install interface that would not have to rely on an insecure FTP login, would be totally and completely awesome.

thanks for all the hard work you guys put in, i love your software and can't wait to check out what you have in store for us in 2.0!

I also think conitnueing the the search forum thing.. There should be a quick search inside that forum to make it easier

Thantos

The quick search will search inside the current topic if you are in a topic, current board if you are in a board (but not a topic) or the entire forum elsewhere.

So like if I use a the quick search now it will just search inside the topic? I see it now but does this work for 1.1.2 yet?

--edit-- I see it does work

in other words, all of your requests either exist already or are theme updates and have nothing to do with 2.0 :)

I dont think the display modes have to do anything with adjusting the theme. I would think that would be a feature :o Im not really sure you guys are the boss

if you want to change the layout, then it is a THEME related thing...

Although, I suppose threaded views would require additional code.

[personal view]
however, threaded views are annoying as all gitout.

Why not use sftp, scp or ftps to upload the files (or plain old ssh to handle the extraction and such) and set permissions manually? As long as the webserver can write to the files it needs to, it won't ask about connection info. I've been doing that with success on my testing installs for some time.

Also a multiquote directly on each post would be nice. I know you can do it while a new reply but maybe an icon you can click for several :o

again, methinks that would be a template issue, not a functionality

All these template things.. But it seems like some of this is features for other forum software and not just the template >_>

maybe....  but remember, SMF's templating engine is much more powerful than many other forums'...
