I want to try my hand with templates in a website I'm doing for a friend

after reading a bit about it, I found there're several approaches to this

I wanted to ask you guys, what you think the best way to tackle this would be

thank you in advance for anything you could tell me on this ;)

It really depends on how complex it needs to be.  When I was researching this, most of the hard core devs were just recommending write your one.  You can go from a very simple preg_replace that looks for the tags and replaces them.  Or you could go more complex.  I think the template that SMF is going to come out with promises to be one of the nicest/most complex template systems out there.
Find out about Enigma, the portal built exclusively for YaBB SE will be continuing it's work towards SMF

It's not meant to be the most complex.  It's meant to be the fastest and easiest to use.  I think it's pretty close, if not right on ;).

sweet

and can I know how it is now or should I wait until SMF as a whole is released?

I'm not asking for the code if it can't be told, but the concept of how it works would point me in the correct direction at least
