The files you need to change are top.jpg and left.jpg in the tolkien_11/images/img folder

If you make other jpgs with the same name and overwrite them on the server the code will call your new images instead.

The code to modify the details behind those images is in style.css  If you search for those file names you'll see some info about their properties.

I am still not sure how to change these files you are talking about. I am new to this and am rather on the stupid side when figureing this stuff out. Wish this theme had a simple way to enter the URL for a differant logo.

Grindalyx

You know i have to say. The help on this forum is lacking. I am told to change some files. Yet i am not told how to find the files. I am new to this program and not sure how to locate that i need to change. The theme is great but there is no easy way in wich for a person who is not very knowledgeable about coding to change the header logo like other themes.

Grindalyx

I take it then the author isn't going to help me. I still don't understand why he didn't put in a header logo url option for changing the header logo.

I usually dont come on during the weekends.  Anyways, if you make a banner file and save it with the file name top.jpg and then upload it to the img folder using ftp or the cpanel tool that your host will provide it will ask to overwrite the file that is there, go ahead, and you will see your banner.

You will also see a piece of the sword is still there.  That is the left.jpg file and you can change it as well.

Grindalyx

I have the banner i want. I made it so that the top part of the sword is still in banner. I have it saved on my PC as top.jpg. I not exactly sure how to access the img folder. When i get to were i can see the top.jpg folder it won't let me access it. Guess i am looking for step by step instructions on how to do this. Sorry if i am asking too much.

Are you using cpanel's file manager or an ftp program to access your files on your site?

Grindalyx

I am using the upload in the downloader manager.

RustyBarnacle

Thats not going to help with this part.  Once you start manually editing things you need better access.

Install a ftp program or find out if you have cpanel available from your host.  If you do you should be able to go to it by adding cpanel at the end of your domain instead of index like the forum uses.

Example

www.poppedquestion.com/cpanel

Grindalyx

The cpanel wants me to log in. I do not know what log in i should use since i didn't set up the site.

RustyBarnacle

You will need to get that from your host or the person who set it up for you.

Grindalyx

k thanks for the help

Simply because anyone setting out to change this logo, with the gradients etc. will surely need to go by ftp anyway. Just adding any image up there - as an header logo implies - will look rather bad.

Grindalyx

I made a banner that has the sword and the ring. I just changed the picture and name. How do i go about overwriting the new banner?

RustyBarnacle

Did you get a FTP program or access to cpanel yet?

Grindalyx

Yes i have access to my new sites Cpanel

RustyBarnacle

There should be a file manager.

Use that to go to your themes/tolkien_11/images/img folder and click the upload button to put your new file in.

Grindalyx

Thank you rusty. I got it changed.

my members can't see the 'new' .gif in IE. I can see it in Firefox though!

Sorry to dredge this topic up from the past, but I've just started using SMF (v1.1.4) and have Tolkien_11 as a user selectable theme (I actually use it on my admin account). I've noticed that the new .gif doesn't show at all in either FireFox2 or IE7. In Firefox I just see the alternate text "New" as if there isn't an image, and in IE7 it shows as a bad image icon with the alternate text "New" next to it (all within a border so I know they are related). I've checked through cpanel and new.gif exists at Themes/tolkien_11/images/english/ and I can view it fine as a file from cpanel's file browser. I installed this theme as a package from the .zip file I downloaded from here and haven't made any changes to the installed files.

I also surfed through the theme .php files and only found in Themes/tolkien_11/pages/homepage.template.php a reference to 'new' which points to Themes/default/images/english/new.gif which also exists and is viewable with cpanel.

Anyone have any ideas where my issue is?
