You cant release a modified theme of this theme unless you got permission from eren.

I have sent Eren a message a little while ago but have not had a response I hope to here from him soon.

I still haven't heard back from Eren

How much code needs to change before a theme is considered a new theme? I have changed most of the code and added many new templates to the theme. Just about the only link to the original theme are the icons and some of the background images but would be happy to not re-distribute those.

I would like someone to help test my theme, especially of some of the parts I am not using on my site.

You still require permission from *eren as you used his code. If you used default theme's code then it would've been fine.
No matter how much you change you require permission.
