Hi

I have version 1.3 installed and it works almost perfectly. The only problem is regular members cant post in there own galleries. If I give the Mod status they are able to moderate everyone's galleries and I don't want that. Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks

TheListener

PlasticMan

Yes regular members have Permissions to:

Access Gallery

Add Albums

Add User Playlists

Moderate own Albums

There are two places that allow admins to edit permissions. I was in the general permissions when I should have been in the Aeva Permissions Profiles. Apparently Aeva Permissions Profiles trumps the general permissions.

Once I was in APP, I just clicked the default profile button and presto all the settings I needed!

That is something I didn't know.

Am finding things out that I didn't know were there.

Anyways I have recently started getting this error in the media admin area.

The DB entry of file #380, used with item #132, is missing.

Am wondering if the cause would be due to having one of the images also used as that particular folders mainpic instead of the folder image.

Opinions folks?

Lovin' the latest (1.3a) release of Aeva Media. This is exactly what I've been needing for my classes and it works perfectly.

I know you've been encouraging people to switch over to your website for future releases and support, unfortunately I cannot successfully create an account. A long while back I registered, but the confirmation link didn't work. Recently I tried again, and the link does not allow me to successfully register or to retrieve old password.

My username there is - BYUFanatic.

Also, I see that you've gone commercial and I would be happy to purchase 2.x if I might have one feature request added:

I would LOVE to have the ability to embed a video on the gallery to another website. In other words, HOST the video in Aeva Media and embed it on a different site using a simple URL. If you can accomplish that, I would most gladly upgrade to the commercial version!

Thanks for a great mod!

Just an addendum -

Just more clarification on being able to embed a video FROM the gallery onto another site. Perhaps a field displayed under the video that displays the URL for where exactly on the website the video is stored. Very similar to the "direct link" field that is already there. Only instead of calling it something like:

http://www.mywebsite.com/MGalleryItem.php?id=3

Have it display as:

http://www.mywebsite.com/mgal_data/albums/album_name/Dir_1/video.flv

Problem is, videos that are uploaded get converted, so that's an issue....

I don't like to be informed about Aeva 2.0 and doing much browsing after that just to find a download link.
Finally i see 2.0 is commercial.
Sry, you've done a great job on this module but your politics and browsing the update related link inside SMF and your module su**.
You have to clarify the commercial status of Aeva 2.0 inside SMF.

BTW: The SMF page should dismiss Aeva2.0. Please preserve the support for the free versions and redirect all issues to Aeva 2.0 to their site.

I've had exactly the same problem. I can sign up but no activation e-mails ever arrive even though I click resend.

Beware, I've seen this character across the net making trite comments on various unrelated sites.

YogiBear, I've activated both your accounts. Please delete one of them. I don't like clutter ;)

BYU, I've changed your password to the first part of your e-mail address (before the @gmail.com part). Please change the password after you successfully log in.

Any registration issues should be brought up to me, of course. I've never heard of such problems until today. But I've had issues with my server for the last couple of days -- they started a few minutes after I announced v2.0, very oddly. My Apache logs don't show anything wrong, any abnormal activity, etc, but I still had my websites shutdown a couple of times by my host for that. I'll probably have the move my site to another server soon. Maybe e-mail problems will be fixed (or worsened?) by the process.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Aeva Media rocks your life.

YogiBear

A huge Thankyou, Nao.  :)

Only problem is I can't find the field to enable me to delete the second account. The one I want to erase is Yogi-Bear (with the hyphen).

Thanks for your help.  :)

probably a spammer actually...   but I will address the issue raised:
SMF Allows the authors of mods to do whatever they want with their own mods, paid or free.
The only restriction is that the mod(s) available here on simplemachines.org must be free.

Nao has decided to remove the free version from support (and distribution?) here... that is his right, as mod author.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

@steve51184> You can disable the gallery by simply not setting the permissions for it (they're disabled by default anyway). You'll still see it as you're an admin. With v2.0, however, you can entirely disable the gallery, even for admins. Only currently embedded pictures will remain visible (i.e. they have to be inside a post and use the smg tag.)

@SteveW> Send me your URLs by PM and I'll have a look at your sites.
As for support, basically: support for v1.3a will obviously remain here (although I will probably not participate), because I have no control over this board and can't close it down. That's why I didn't create a 1.3a support board over at noisen.com -- the existing board was barely being used, so I turned it into a 2.0 support board (only visible to customers). As for 1.3a updates -- as of now, I don't know if I'll release any. I'm not saying no, though. I'm still in the process of changing my entire system. Obviously I won't add to 1.3a any new features from the 2.x line. They will, however, still benefit from 2.x auto-embedding site list updates (in case I do any.)

@Kcmartz> Your loss. v1.3a is a perfectly valid mod, better than any competition, commercial or not. I'm just going to prove it can be even better, with 2.x. ;)

@KahneFan> Yes, it's in the permissions.

@Dharshan> If you want my opinion, there are many reasons why SMF2 isn't gold yet. The main reason is that earlier team incarnations screwed it up. The new one is probably in a better position to release it in a timely manner. Still, it wants to release a flawless version, which in the 1.x branch would have meant something like directly releasing v1.11. See what I mean? 2.0 has so many changes, it's impossible to make it flawless without a very large scale release -- i.e., a production version. Beta testers can't account for everything.

@mark7144> Ah, you never give up eheh ;) Okay, I promise I'll give it a look then. However I can't promise I'll put it back, not because of a lack of enthusiasm, but simply because the Beeb doesn't officially support external embedding, as far as I can remember. (I wouldn't count on my memory too much today, though.)

@Brack1> The permission system is complex, but it's the only way to enable users to have different types of albums. Look at Noisen -- I have albums for Foxprog (with linked topics and everything), albums for Aeva Media (download area, with a hidden download area for customers), my users have their own pic/vid albums, etc... If everything was using the same permission system, no one would use it.
As for the bug you mention, I don't really customize album folders. It may be a clue, though. I made many changes last year to the system, and this may have caught an extra bug I never noticed.

@BYU> Writing specific features takes time, I wouldn't do it for $20 ;) What you're asking for is an external embedding system that would, for instance, allow users to embed in their forums a video from another SMF forum. To do that, I would have to make sure that AeMe can automatically embed these URLs, because, well, that would be a downer otherwise. So, it would need to be able to recognize the URL. But, what with PrettyURLs and everything, I can't "be sure" the URL would be in the ?action=media;sa=... form. It doesn't sound too perfect to me (silly me, I know.) I don't know, I guess I would have to see if others ask for such a feature, but as of now I only got one such request, long ago, and when I refused, I got insulted. (Which sure isn't the best way to convince me.)

@BYU²> I don't really understand what you mean. 'Converted'?

@thxx1138> My politics have always been to keep the thing free. But as you can see, this has changed. I don't know if you noticed, but I actually stopped working on Aeva Media several months ago, when I resigned from the Beta Tester team and put an end to my collaboration with SMF for various reasons. Two months later, I was contacted by the team and offered a developer position (which didn't leave me time for working on AeMe anyway.) I didn't really get along with the team leader, and after weeks of negociations that didn't come to fruition, I decided to leave SMF and its community to their problems and find someone else to do. I was about to entirely delete all of my mods from the website when my girlfriend suggested I should simply sell Aeva Media, because that move wasn't going to help SMF, and it could on the other hand pay me back for some of my efforts. The idea was well accepted (just read this topic!), so I did it. Now I have actually resumed work on a mod that I would have otherwise completely abandoned.

Basically, I'm exactly to the point where the only competitor to Aeva Media, SMF Gallery, has been for the last 4 years. There's a free version with very few features (there are no categories, etc), and the website is selling a Pro version for $50/year. I'm offering a full-featured Aeva Media for free, and selling further features for what is currently $20/year. How can it even compare? I'm asking you.

@Kindred> Thanks for your understanding. And for being the very first customer of AM2, actually ;)
