Moderators cannot use this mod.  There is no permission.  It is hard-coded for admins only.
This is to prevent abuse.  For the reasons I explained further above, I will not add, nor explain how to enable moderators or normal users to use this feature.

1. Quick reply, it currently only works with fully reply.  Not quick reply.
2. No, the mod only supports posting as one. (and set via the admin center), In order to limit abuse.

If you require to use more alternatives then I would suggest the Persona Mod instead.

To me it's a pretty unethical mod opening all doors to misuse. I don't like it :/

MinasC

unethical is a pretty heavy word !!! if you ask me i'd say that it is giving you options to do things , not necessarily bad for someone ! for example i used this as a game in my forum urging members to figure out what posts i had made as someone else trying to confuse them , which is pretty silly i admit , but it's not bad or unethical ! most things in life can be used for good and bad purposes but it's our judgement that makes the difference ...

excelciors

hello guys,
newbie here. just wanna ask where i can find the

*Admins Only* : Post/Edit As Selected Alternative User checkbox?

I can't seem to find it.

karlbenson

In FULL Post

It will be listed under Show Additional Options

Note, if your not using the SMF default core theme, and your theme has a custom Post.template.php you need to have performed the manual edit for the option to show.

Not working on my version. Gives error 'not compatible...'.

Using 1.1.4 with TP 0.9

the mod DOES work for 1.1.4

Try downloading the mod file to your pc, then uploading it via the package manager > browse packages

You know what would be cool?
If we create a post, and can select there from a drop down list as what user we want to post.
This allow for example to transfer topics from another forum, by just recreating the posts as the original poster, considered the user database is identical.
I am at that problem at the moment. I have a new forum, and need a way to recreate the original posts from an old forum, and this mod would do that perfectly.

great idea !

Thats exactly what I don't want to do for security/legal reasons.
This feature isnt meant to be used to make posts pretend to be from other active users.
But from an alternative Generic one eg "Forum Staff".

Do note, I am currently working a copy topic mod.

Of course, it should be only available for admins. For other user, the dropdown and functionality is just disabled, or even not visible.
I had a damn hard time today to recreate topics from an old forum. For every single post, I had to go into the admin/features etc. and changed the member id, clicked save, go to the post, click the "admin" function and post. Took ages to recreate just a topic with about 100 posts...

karlbenson

I meant EVEN FOR for admins.
I am completely uncomfortable with giving the ability to make admins make 'any post' appear as it has been written by user 'x'.
Anything could be written including 'defamatory/libelous', accusations, etc. which could then have legal ramifications.
That is why when I designed the mod I set the option in the admin area rather than when writing the post.
This mod was solely indeed as indicated throughout this topic to provide admins the ability to post under a 'Staff/Forum' username so as not tied to a specific user.

Although your use of the mod is NOT in a nefarious way, I am extremely uncomfortable with the possibilities.
As indictated throughout this topic, in future I will either pull this mod completely or 'lock' it down further by creating a specific 'Forum Staff' user which would be the ONLY username that you could post under with this mod.

Can't I put the code from normal reply into the quick reply box?

I've no idea. It might work, it might not.

Because SMF might bypass some of the settings options because quick reply was used.

I would like to give the admins the option to change to another user name that is created by me. Specially for our doctors and psychologists who don't want to be hounded once people find out who they are? But only given their alter ego choices, if that makes sense?

Nice mod,
But I wonder if is there a faster way for the admin to split a topic into separate topics, each post will become a new topic, the new topic keeps the original post, date & time, poster name.
Thanks.
