I thought your problem was a login issue?  If that's the case, the code for checking name length during SMF registration should be irrelevant.

deejayh

My issues basically stem from the transfer of users from mambo mos-users to SMF smf-members, using the mos2smf.php I believe.
Thats why I was asking the above questions.

I have a number of problems-highlighted above, I just wondered if there was any help and if the mos2smf is working correctly.

Dave

Well, deejayh, it looks like you're using the integration's registration.  I can tell you that SMF 1.0.x definately has no such restrictions or popups.

Well it throws me completely then!!
I have just upgraded to 3.16, just tested with a new made up user - pop up comes up "Please enter a valid password! No spaces, more than 6 characters and contain 0-9, a-z, A-Z"

Whats happening! Think I need a holiday! :(

That's definitely not SMF doing that. SMF doesn't care how many characters your password is (for the most part) or what characters are in it.

That's the standard Mambo password warning, "_REGWARN_PASS".

deejayh

Hi (just back off holiday)!

Can anyone help to find what the problem is with this then?

I thought that I was using the bridge registration!

Thanks,
Dave

A question on Kirby's conversion script:

If I run that script, do I need to run the MOS to SMF User migration script?  It appears Kirby's script takes care of the users, so the other script would be redundant.

Is this right?

Also, if anyone has any idea about modifying Kirby's script to include attachments, would greatly love responses to: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=37265.0

Thanks a billion
Nic
The longer you stare at the screen, the blanker it gets...

Kirby

Of all honesty, I have never really used or been fimiliar with the Mambo bridge, so I can't answer most of the questions...as for attachments, I'll check that out when I have time

<vavroom rearranges Kirby's schedule so he has loads of time>  :P

Seriously, thanks :)  *Any* assistance is much appreciated :)

I just have to drop a note and say THANKS!  It worked like a charm.

Do you have a paypal dcnation button anywhere?  I would like to drop you a few dollars ($5 seem fair?) to say thanks as this script was exactly what I was looking for.

Best,

R. Joe

I'm glad it worked, and by the by, I don't think it would be fair for me to accept a donation since all I did was edit the current converters to match the Simpleboard/Mambo DB schema. So I did it for free, and it's going to remain that way ;)

Mate - you are an absolute legend!!

I am trying to move my rather large fansite out of a mambo system and find a new cms due to all the problems I'm having with mambo that just seem to be increasing with each new release. This is proving to be a HUGE task especially if I dont want to lose all the data.

One serious problem is that the simpleboard forum just doesnt work anymore. It got steadily worse with each update and then with the new mambo version it just went completely cactus.  I have several hundred members and wanted to find a new forum to install as a stand alone separate from the mambo installation. I really didnt hold much hope that there'd be a way to bring the messages and users over to it though.

I really liked the look of SMF and the forums here are really great. So I was pretty excited to find this thread and your converter thingy.

I have to tell you - I am a complete clutz with all this stuff but your converter worked like a charm. So if I can do it anyone can!

After all the problems I've had trying to fix mambo problems over the past 2 years  - well..........let's just say I had expected to be doing at least an hours work or possibly several....days  - but it worked in less than 5 minutes (and then only coz I couldnt get the path to simpleboard right - der!!)

Thank you so much. I was thrilled with how easy it was - and the only glitch is that all those horrible back slashes have shown up throughout the posts. But hey, I can live with that.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!  :D

Cheers

PS You're lucky you don't live near me or you'd have been smothered in hugs tonight.

I will be cleaning up the forum structure and making some other changes before linking the members to it but here's what it looks like at present: http://www.paulini.info/forum Just brilliant SMF!!

Kirby

I'm glad the conversion succeded  ;D

vavroom

@ flynn

Glad your conversion went well :)

Now, I know this is not a mambo forum, so it might be best if you responded to my mambo question via a PM.  But...  What exactly is the problem(s) you are encountering with Mambo?  Heck, of all the CMS's I've found out there, it's the most solid and user friendly I've worked with.  If your problems stem from simpleboard interacting with Mambo, don't blame mambo...  In fact, if your problems stem from 3rd party applications not playing nice with Mambo, the CMS really can't be blamed.  IM(NS)HO.
