I've been using this method but then thought of something.  Would this prevent bots from indexing the site?  I'm think since bots are basically guests, they'd never go through posts.  Can someone shed some light on this?

As many times and as many different ways this topic has been addressed and referred to, it's still not complete.

I put in a feature/mod request that asks if the main Permissions area includes the options View Posts and View Topics on a per group basis.

Can we get that done?

I've actually added a blank line and option in my Permissions area under Posts called 'view_post'.  I just don't know how to make it work.

Instead of 'arcade' I made it for 'view_post'.

CAN WE GET THIS DONE?   Two years worth of people asking about it might beg for it to be added to core the system.

I appreciate the effort, but I already installed Read Topic Permission mod.  It doesn't address the core need, the ability to set permissions for a User in a Group to View Post or View Topic.  Obviously, the need is the ability to leave those options unchecked so certain groups can't view posts of topics or topics of boards.

If you go in and define Permissions by Membergroups, there is the ability to toggle on and off View Calendar and View Polls but not View Posts and View Topics.

I think the ability to hide boards based on Membergroups (the other mod your posted) is inherent with the ability to make boards accessible to certain groups.  In fact, I put in code to counteract that, as I want everyone to see all of our boards, just certain people to be able to read those topics.

When I type in the URL for my board all the categories and boards are loaded (uncollapsed).  How do I make the home page only show the main categories and allow the guests or anyone who visits the site to open the categories themselves.  As it stands now when someone visits my site all the categories and dozens of subcategories are displayed and I only want the parent categories to display initially to everyone who visits.  you can reply to my email address if you would like.  I think that's allowed here.
