I found no issue with the SP extra shoutbox options plugin.
It is running on SMF 2.0.17 + SP 2.3.7 without any problems.

Please make sure to download the latest version here:
https://web-develop.ca/index.php?action=downloads;area=stable_simple_portal_plugins;file=25

Also note that improperly altering the reg. expression arguments in that plugin's settings can break the shoutbox.
If you altered those settings improperly and don't know how to fix it then there is a default option to revert it to its original state.

There is an edit to SP itself regarding the shoutbox for replacing deprecated javascript code that may or may not be relevant:

We just tried to install it again into all possible templates and it seems to be working now. And, when your plugin was disabled, we got again abused and thousands of spams were sent. So I think the shoutbox can be easily hacked...

It adds extra permissions & rules for each shoutbox so perhaps something you have set due to the plugin is stopping it.
Imo make it only visible for members which will stop any script from abusing it as a guest.

Hello,
I have just made another attempt to set up my forum before it goes into production, and I have 2 similar errors that appear in my error log that keep appearing as soon as I installed the "simple portal" mod.

Does this message tell you where my error is?

For info I'm in php 7.3
smf 2.0.17
with my original DB

Mod installed before sinple portal:

If it helps, these errors are displayed 5 times each time I return to the home page.

My guess would be coming from a php code you have entered into a SP portal block

"Simple Portal - not active button in the menu in stand-alone mode"

Hello. The portal "Simple Portal" is switched to standalone (autonomous) mode. The address is set - "/index.php?action=portal". When you enter the button Portal, the Forum button lights up in the menu as an active button. How to make the Portal button appear active when entering the portal page? Thank.

1) Portal button pressed

2) Committed entry into the Portal (Портал) page

3) Active (highlighted in orange) Forum (Форум) button - Why?

Hello
I have a problem with the shoutbox integrated to the simple portal mods.
As soon as you put a letter with an accent in a sentence and validate it, nothing is displayed.
How to fix this bug?
Is it a panel setting or a modification in a script?
And if it is a modification in a script, what is the modification and in which file?
And if it's in the admin panel, what is the procedure?
thank you

Chen Zhen

@grandseb59:
Try this plug-in which will fix the shoutbox input for Simple Portal 2.3.7:

I'll elaborate my on my question.

Trying to get assistance with a simple portal feature, but can't login on the SP site because the login is disabled.  Is this temporary? Should I ask for assistance here?

Thanks in advance

Tonyvic

See the top of Simple Portal site: https://simpleportal.net/index.php where it states

They had a partial server failure some time ago and that is all they have left. I suspect this means they are not taking it further going forward.

Questions can still be asked here though.

Mark S

Wow, that's sad to hear.  The portal has been a huge plus on my site for years.

Thank you.

As arantor said you can still ask on this thread and people will try help

I made some changes to my registration method and member groups.  I added some post based groups but I still have some assigned member groups.  When I did this, the shoutbox simply says, "sorry, this shoutbox doesn't exist."  I looked in the SP admin and it's still there.  I tried deleting it.  It was still there, same message.  I tried deleting it an making a new one.  Same message.

I can't get it to work and I can't delete it.  It's gone in the shoutbox admin panel, but it's still physically on the forum with that message.

Any way to fix this?

Guys, is the simplePortal dead?

If yes, can someone please update the opening post with the relevant info, eg remove the (dead) download link and replace it with a "no longer available" message?

Also the mod page could be updated to state this fact.
https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1104

Oh, and can someone recommend an alternative?

@rjen

As far as I kown it is not 'dead' as such, but the dedicated support site is no longer being maintained....

Be that as it may, there are alternatives available: check the mod section for 'Portals"

Thank you for the chat alternative.

I suppose the only thing to do is either to wait to see if SP recovers or switch to tiny portal to ensure future SMF compatibility.
