@ Paracelsus ... I had looked at felblog's design scheme previously to determine the difficulty in creating a converter.  I think it's do'able.  I'll put that on my priority list of things to add soon.

Issue discovered.  I had hard coded a custom window for Degrees of Zero (my site) and forgot to take it out before releasing zCommunity.  This will be fixed for 0.7.3, but you can fix it yourself in 0.7.2 by following the instructions located at the following link:

Thanks... I'll wait for it, no rush. ;)

Not to jack this thread but ......

....wow,i love your forum setup.  Excellent color choice,layout...everything.  Nice work.

;D... Tkx, lot of work behind it (months actually, but then again, I'm a medical doctor not a programmer :P), but I think it was worth the effort.

Charles,

I'm not quite sure why you felt the need to re-write the whole posting system and such... and I don't quite agree with the whole new theme system... but that is your right as the mod author...
However. one thing that I think is absolutely critical of ANY mod made for SMF is that it should utilize the SMF permission system.
(that's actually one of my tests for bridge compatibility with externally linked-systems as well)

In other words, by removing the capability of including post-count based groups in the permissions, I think you may have damaged the mod's compatibility with SMF. I'd like to see the full permissions/membergroup support added back in if possible. :)

(and I'd still like to see a 2.0 version. :) I have a 2.0 forum that desperately needs a blog system. LOL! )

I rewrote the posting system because I thought I could do it better... The way I made it, there is no limit to what functionality can be added.  The only thing that's missing right now is a few ajax functions, spell checking, and the bbc cloud.

The reason I made a separate permissions system was because a lot of people were confused by having permissions for their blogging community located in the smf permissions area.  Also there is a technical reason with having a somewhat simpler permissions system just for zCommunity... If zC used SMF's permissions system, there would be dozens of extra database queries.  Plus there wouldn't be nearly the variety of zC specific permissions as there are now.

I am going to include post-count based member groups (it will only require a few edits).

Yes I am going to make it compatible with SMF2+.  If you look at the code of zCommunity right now, you'll notice I've already taken many steps towards that end.

Charles, I have a quick question.  I remember using the Blog Community a while ago, and one feature that I liked was that the blog posts would also show up in a forum, and would increase post count.  Is this available in zCommunity too (sorry if it is repeat :( )?

Charles Hill

I haven't added individual user stats yet for the zCommunity.  I will, though... it will not be difficult.  What will be interesting is designing functions to be easily incorporated into smf wherever you might want to pull that info.  Like.... maybe you would want to show a user's stats (# articles, #blogs, #subscribers etc etc etc) below their forum stats on posts (in topics on your forum)... or in their profile.  I will be attempting a design scheme that will make this very easy and efficient.

TheDisturbedOne

What I was referring to was lets say I post a Blog article titled "Free Beer".  Is there a function so that the blog post would also turn into a topic in a forum called Blogs by the name of "Free Beer".

Though THAT would be awesome (what you said in your post).

Ya that's possible... but I really don't see the benefit of that.

TheDisturbedOne

Hope would I enable it?
I want it so that if people blog a lot, their post count will still go up, and things like that.

Charles Hill

So just having their post count go up without having a topic created for each article they make would be ok?  That would be a lot easier.

I cannot get any manual install instructions. I just would like to know where I would be able to enter in my indextemplate and boardtemplate in my custom themes to show the 'Blog' button in the top menubar.
I was able to do that when I installed SMedia Gallery, and I know that I should be able to for this.

ALSO... haven't had a chance to experiment much yet, but is there a way that i could have a link to a user's blog under their avatar when posting in SMF?

I didn't get it wrong, I just found 10,000 ways it doesn't work...

If you look at the themes.xml file in the second part of the install package, you will see what you need to add/change in your themes' index.template.php.

You will be able to add things below users' avatars when posting soon.

Please be aware that this is still an alpha, and you should not use it on a production site unless you really know what you're doing.

Yeah that would be fine.

0.7.3 Alpha is now available.  I addressed all of the small problems found thus far.
