Although I have never noticed it, some of the forum members try to upload a photo that has been reduced, down to 10k, and are told that "the upload folder is full".

Where do I increase the size of this folder ? Is their a tutorial or walk me through instructions to increase the size of this folder ?

I have tried increasing some folder sizes, but as I'm not getting the problem myself, I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing !!!

Go into Admin > Attachments and settings > Attachment settings and make the file sizes bigger there. They should be able to upload a bigger file then but just make it realistic to stop people loading huge stuff up.

Ok, I've slightly increased the folder sizes...but the problem occured for a member who had reduced his picture file down to 10k, and it still wouldn't accept it.

i'm having the same problem. i've increased the size of the folder. i even tried uploading a very small picture, no luck

What version of SMF are you using?

Does your host set a limit on how much an individual can upload?

greyknight17

Why slightly? It will only fill it up again very shortly. Increase it more....bump it up 10% or more to see if there is any positive effect.

Upgrade to the latest one. The old one probably has an issue.

There are no known issues as far as the attachment folder size limit in 1.1.4. Upgrading to 1.1.6 is highly recommended, but I doubt that will fix the issue.

Have you tried uploading a couple of different file extensions like .gif .jpg .png ? It could possibly be one is restricted and it may allow another.Or have you inadvertently changed a setting and not realized it is effecting uploads.

Here are the settings with a bit of info to help just in case its a setting problem.

Attachments mode:  Enable all attachments
Check attachment's extension: Unticked (Tick this ideally once extensions working below)
Allowed attachment extensions:doc,gif,jpg,mpg,pdf,png,txt,zip
Encrypt stored filenames (?):Ticked
Attachments directory:(full root)\smf\attachments
Max attachment folder space:  10240 KB     (Total max size of folder. This might need to be bigger depending how many attachments total,I.E if you have a lot of members)
Max attachment size per post:   192  KB     (This might be a problem if more than one attached since 4x below (128kb)wont fit.Increase to suit x4 max or reduce to x1 or 2 below)
Max size per attachment:  128 KB         (Check above if more than 1 per post depending on each attachment size)
Max number of attachments per post:4   (Check 2 above sizes if left on 4)
Display image attachments as pictures under post:Ticked
Resize images when showing under posts:Ticked
Maximum width of thumbnails:150   (pixels)
Maximum height of thumbnails:150  (pixels)

The sizes are base settings so you may need to increase them a little bit more also make sure the path to the folder is correct.I dont know if this will be of use to you but I thought I would try explain the settings a little more to help.If non of the above helps then there must be a more deeper rooted reason for them not to display. It could be host restrictions or possibly if you run your own server (Apache say)the config settings for it may need looking at as well since apache can restrict the sizes as well.

Let us know if you have any progress but if not please list your host and addons currently in use and any errors in your logs if present since they may shed some light on what is wrong.

I have started having this problem too, has been fine for the first few months of the forums life now its giving this error? Can the folder actually become full? Do I need to buy more disc space from the host?

utahxjer

I'm having the same problem, I only have 4 members so far who have avatars and no attachments.  Here are my file maintenance specs:

File Attachment Statistics
Total Attachments: 0
Total Avatars: 4
Total Size of Attachment Directory: 21997.09 KB [Maintain]
Total Space Available in Attachment Directory: 0 KB

Please help!

How are the files in the upload folder encoded?

all mine seem to have very long, extensionless names eg

354_meerkats_bmp5ce2f968d16df917c9f6fa5de4bb4127

none of them will open in paintshop, very few will show a thumbnail view in XP..

does SMF store them as some strange format?

MadMick

I know this is marked as solved, but in case anyone else is having similar issues, the main thing to check would have to be these two settings in Admin>Forum>Attachments and Avatars;

Max attachment size per post:      KB (mine is set to 1024 - 1MB)
Max size per attachment:    KB (mine is set to 256 so that 4 files can be attached without a problem)
Regards,

Mick.
