99% of the sites would never use such a thing.

99%? Surely you have the proof to back up that claim?

A forum with shoutbox is the best way to promote interactivity.

Either way, what about the rest of us who DO use the shoutbox on our forums?

This situation is getting desperate...

it is also a crucial part of my community. I may have to go back to phpbb if i can't get a decent shoutbox up!!!  =(

My forum members LOVE the shoutbox. But it still has several bugs which make continuous usage a real pain in the ass, to say the least.

EDIT: I am being forced to disable this shoutbox as it is so full of bugs. Whenever someone types in the shoutbox, it randomly creates doubles or triples of the same text!! This is so frustrating... My members use the shoutbox a lot to interact. To make the double/triple text go away, i have asked my members to always refresh the forum page and it works but it is very annoying to have to refresh the forum page entirely every time someone types a line in the shoutbox. SMF is very much less appealing suddenly. phpBB might not be such a bad solution after all.

I have an issue issue. My shoutbox comes up if i go to this url http://an0nymoushelper.com/forums/index.php?action=shoutbox but it is nowhere on my main page of my forum. Could someone please help me out with this? It would be very much appreciated. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you no how and will help me out. So then i can give you my theme. Thank you very much in advance if anyone can help!

EDIT: Figured it out!

eyo

Is earched all menu in my forum but can't find how to enable it?

How it works?
Is it will show in the header of the topics..?

sharks

Yeah, just set it to show in top block inside your forum only and disable the portal itself, so it's just like a shoutbox minus the portal features.

But i can't see the configure menu in admin panel?

Did you get any errors while installing? If not, then the menu for SimplePortal is right under the "Forum" category on the left-side inside the Admin panel.

Configuration >
general settings >Portal mode > choose "integration".
Leave all other unchanged.
Block settings > check Display Blocks in Forum

Now go to Blocks >
Add block. Select Shoutbox.

Now go to Shoutbox >
Modify > set what you want.

That's it!

SMF 2.0.2

For those that are interested, I have this running under SMF 2.0 RC4 with no errors.

I have integrated all the bug fixes that have been raised on SMFHacks site to a point where this looks and works properly on the default theme.

All integration works and mod is configurable in Admin.

My thanks go out to the original and subsequent writers of this mod and to all those who have contributed to the bug fixes.

I'm not sure if this is allowed or not but this is a link to the revised package [edit- sorry link removed]

If there are no other packages installed that can affect this mod then it should install and work correctly.

My packages installed are:

1. Ad Managment 2.3.6.4  [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
2. SMF Gallery Lite 3.0.2   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
3. SMF Quiz 1.0.8 beta4   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
4. Switch Permissions 1.0   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
5. Adk Portal 2.0 RC6   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
6. SMFPacks Shoutbox 1.0   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
7. Highslide 4 SMF 0.5e   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
8. Last Users In 24 Hours 1.0   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
9. Welcome Topic Mod 2.1  [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
10. PaypalDonations 2.0   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
11. AJAX Instant Quick Reply 1.0.4   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

I cannot give any other support with this mod as I only have a moderate knowledge of phpBB code. I'm just a tweaker ;)

Just look at my suggestion above. SimplePortal already has a shoutbox integrated. You just need to enabled only that part of the portal mod. It works very well.

Yep I read your post sharks but in my world and on my site the only portal that doesnt affect the 'Quiz' that I've installed is 'ADKportal'. The shoutbox in 'ADKportal' has a server bug and its not been fixed yet and as people want this shoutbox where the harm in giving people what they want?  ;D

No harm at all! :D I was making a suggestion to all those who are using SMF 1.1.x (which is the majority), since you have only fixed this mod for RC4.

Anyway, well done in fixing this abandoned mod to make it work on 2.0 RC4.

davejo,

I appreciate your effort, however, linking to the update package off-site is just as "bad" as attaching an updated package to a thread.

Unless the mod author gives you permission to update his mod, we must protect the author's ownership of the mod, as with any other software. Seeing as Nibogo has withdrawn support for this mod, maybe he'd be willing to grant you permission to update and distribute (ask him!) but until then, I had to remove your link.

Hello!

I have installed the shoutbox, and all works fine in the default theme.

The theme I use (kelo by padexx) on page forum all centered instead of being aligned to the left.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Only the index.php page does it happen: http://vukovisadunava.com/index.php?action=forum

All other pages are fine. I think that something does not fit with  the indextemplate.php? Boardindex drawn over a full screen shot and a header remain short.

I used an old version of shoutbox and it is not distorted page.

I shut off shoutbox until solve the problem.
