I say possible because it's late, and I've never worked with this before, but I don't think it's doing what it should be.

Here's what gives, I have SMF 1.01, I have two smiley sets, classic and default, and classic is set as the "default" (iykwim!)

> I make a new directory via ftp  Smileys/silly/
> ftp into it some new smilies
>[admin]> [smilies & smiley sets]>[new smiley set]
>>> name it "silly"
>>> point it to existing directory
>>> Import smilies already in this directory

Then, without changing the default set I go to a new post and it's pretty messed up.

when I delete smf_smilies and replace with the backup_ table it looks fine again, will double check this go round...

Yep, it's fine.  here's ie after restoring backup of table:

If this isn't a bug, if it's a skinware problem, my apologies :)   I haven't taken a lot of time customizing yet, just thought I'd throw in a few extra smilies!  *g*

SMF expects all smiley sets to include all smileys.

Hmm.  I don't follow.   I created a new set, and put in *all* smilies., and that's when it choked.

Was I not  supposed to click "import smilies" ?   Because that's when the problem started.

Note that I still hadn't told it to actually USE the new set, and the POST screen was popping up references to the images from the other set (yet not the actual images).

The point is, let's say you have two sets.

One has "smiley.gif" and the other has "super.gif".  The respective icons are "" and ":super:".

If I'm using set #1, and I type , I get :).  However, if I'm using set #2, and I type ... what should I get?  Just ?  Or what?

If you have a "smiley.gif" in one set, you have to have it in all sets.  When you imported smileys, you put more smileys in your new set than you have in your other sets.

Cool, got it :)    Thanks!   I should have come back here after I understood.  The problem was in my use of the word 'set' vs. SMF use of it.   Once I browsed the db it was clear.   And I've been having fun with customizations!
