Is this possible with a package upgrade, because I don't know what the hell I'm doing and don't want to mess with anything I don't know how to fix, so any suggestions, packages, tips? Instructions? All the help I can get would be much appreciated.  :D

Nevermind I think I can just get that package, but I need help PLEASE HELP ME, and explain.

Since this is going to a major version, you will need to get the Large Upgrade for SMF 2.0 beta. Extract all the files to your computer. Then upload all those files to your SMF 1.1.7 directory, overwriting whatever you currently have there. Once that's done, point to http://www.yourforum.com/upgrade.php to run the upgrade process. Follow the onscreen instructions and if all goes well, you should be using SMF 2.0 shortly.

As with any major upgrade, please make sure you make a backup of the database and also SMF directory if you want to keep a backup of the files.

Hi all,
I'm not sure how the development team work these things but is the planned development path to go RC1 then RC2 then "gold"? What is the "norm" for SMF development?

I'm just wondering if I should keep brushing up on Dreamweaver and CSS until SMF 2 GOLD comes out, and I can then take my new web skills to that software.

Also, converters... will SMF2 have converters from phpbb3.0.2 straight into SMF2? That would be sooo sweet!  :D :D :D

I am fast becoming a fan.  ;D

And, are there major ease — of — use improvements for newbie themers?

How do I "back up" the database?

Xlife92

Can someone do this for me? I don't want to end up messing it up... I know I will.

My sinceres excuses, I made as indicated in the citation and presented error: Notice: Constant SMF already defined in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\myforum\httpdocs\forum\upgrade.php on line 782

and

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare smf_main() (previously declared in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\myforum\httpdocs\forum\index.php:159) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\myforum\httpdocs\forum\index.php on line 342.

Some solution for this error?

I looked onto google and I found a infinity of equal errors to this, but  no solution.

Xlife92, I suggest learning how to backup and restore databases since it can come in very handy especially if you run into problems with your forum. The tools are very easy to use, you just have to try it out to understand how they work. Usually a few clicks and you are done. You can install the upgrade to a test forum to see how it works out. That way even if anything goes wrong, you have nothing to lose.

arkanoidblue, did you upload the large upgrade files and replace all the existing files on your current installation before running upgrade.php? If you still have problems, please open up a new topic for it.
