It really is the most annoying that no browser sticks to standards. >:(

Oh, I realised afterwards, you will probably not be able to make use of the 'black' gif. I'll still have another go if you can get hold of bmp or a relitively uncompressed jpg of the feather.

I have adjusted the Simplicity theme to that get rid of that "bug" in Opera - its the negative value in positioning the text that Opera will render at the "bottom" - if it is not set to a higher layer number.

Only discovered it today when I was validating the theme - which is now nearly complete.

And Miraenda, I have added one extra style choice to it , called peach. Its a little bit different than the rest, just show how little things can make a visible impact...but more of this in the theme thread. ;)

For what its worth, I thought the feather in your first version - laying over the text - looked especially  nice.

Thanks Col, I hadn't used your black version for that reason. It would have required creating some type of if-else statement for which graphic to use as all colors use the same index.template.php file, and I really didn't want to introduce something like that if possible.

I'm not sure if I can find a bmp or jpg of the feather.  I changed it several times in PhotoShop and I'm not even sure what the original image I had was.  I'll try to see if I have a psd with it as that would have to be the original one.

Thanks a lot Bloc for fixing the bug causing that to happen in Opera. Now I dont even have to try to work on that myself heh.  Also, it's great you'd added another color as I'd asked about in the Simplicity thread.  I'm excited to see what it looks like

I just wanted to update the thread about my writing contest I'm having currently on my forum:

http://anythingeverything.org/index.php/topic,56.msg484.html#msg484

There is a cash award of $72 for the winner at the end of the contest, which you can read about via the above link.  Any suggestions are appreciated since this is the first time I'm doing the contest.  I waited to post here since it isn't fully a forum showcase to have a contest, but if my post is moved, so be it.  With only 1 submission to the contest so far, I certainly hope more people do enter anyway. :D

Miraenda

My tri-monthly contest will be ending on June 14 for the submission entry, so if anyone wanted to enter for the possibility of winning $72 for a 2500 or less writing piece, please do enter.  So far, I've only had 1 entry, and that pretty well leaves a good chance of winning the prize (there are 4 judges on my board, myself and 2 moderators and 1 other member who will judge the entries before the prize is awarded).  I'm hoping to at least get 1 other person so that someone doesn't just win by default lol

I did think $72 and entrants retaining the copyright on the writing reasonable along with the other guidelines, so let me know if you have suggestions for larger participation next content period.

Thanks.

I could try entering, but I don't know that i have the writing skills, and I don't have a PayPal account so I couldn't win anyway :P.

Regardless, the prize and rules sound reasonable to me too, hopefully you've just got a bunch of procrastinators on your hands.

Miraenda

Well, it is easy to get a PayPal account :P

Also, at this point, any submission is better than none because if I have only 1 entry, it isn't even a contest any longer.  I'm sure the guy who entered is jumping up and down that no other people entered though. Deadline is 11:00pm Central Time (-6 GMT) tonight if anyone does want to throw a hat into the ring.

Forum looks good to me. I like the feather especially. Simple idea, but it sums up the theme perfectly.

And of course, I'm a big fan of the Simplicity theme.

Lol a long time later, but thanks forsakenlad. Sorry I missed your comment before, I appreciate it :)

As for the first contest, had 4 entries to it, which isn't as many as I'd hoped, but better than just one ;D  The award was sent on June 30, 2005 to the winner (hcblue for Relativity) - http://anythingeverything.org/index.php/topic,88.msg764.html#msg764

The newest writing contest is now an announcement on my forum in the center pane top - http://anythingeverything.org/ (updated to Bloc's latest Simplicity theme, which has the best features ever, including making an announcement above the most recent topics for the way I've configured it)

Once again, if anyone would like to enter this second TWC, please feel free to do so :)

Hi Miraenda,

I posted at the beginning of this thread thinking I could help with your feather image, but I didn't exactly come up trumps.

I recently came across this and thought it may well be the solution to your png image problems with IE.

Hope it does the trick.

I'm bumping this up to post again about my site's contest, just in case anyone is interested:

http://anythingeverything.org/index.php

I actually have 2 contests now--The Tri-monthly writing contest (TWC) and a new one called Evoking the Spirits Performance (ESP), which is a ghost story contest being held each month.

Hopefully, I have some entries this time around to win the cash prizes of $72 USD for the TWC and $25 USD for the ESP. :)
