I have taken time to study the materials at: Upgrade SMF and I ve begun to understand it some bit.

QuoteDrTonik, Babjusi said you should download a copy of the Large Upgrade Package from the download section linked above, replace the server stored files with fresh sets so you're returned to the state of a default install. The most important files to replace should be the Templates under ./Themes and Sources under ./Sources, the Online Manual has some more information, see: Upgrade SMF

n3rve & Babjusi:
I have downloaded and extracted the files as you advised.
But i want to know if am to replace only the ./Themes and ./Sources files? ONLY them?? Your advise in the quote above advised replacing '...server stored files with fresh sets...'

So wich are d other files or folders to add? Or jus the above?

This document says i shd replace all: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=340.

QuoteOnce all the files are uploaded, if you are using a Unix-like server, which is likely the case, you will need to change the permissions using chmod on a few of the files and directories. The procedure to do this varies between different FTP programs, but generally, you right click on the file or directory whose permissions you wish to change and select properties/chmod/permissions and enter a number (777 or 755 in this case) in the permissions field.

The above is from http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=340

Do i still have to go on ahead to '...change the permissions using chmod on a few of the files and directories...' or wateva that means; after uploading the downloaded smf files since i was already using smf 1.1.8 b4 my forum had the problem?

That is when you install smf for the first time. Whereas you are doing something else.

Okay man. Thanks.

Jus finished uploading all the files.

Don''t upload the upgrade.php and the 2 upgrade.sql file. If you have, then delete them as it is considered a security risk to have them in your server space. Let us know how it will go.

But i still want to add my google, bidvertiser and feedburner codes to the template. Am scared of adding them again cos i feel that may ve been wat caused my initial problem in the 1st place.

Wat do u advise?

Also how do i make site feeds available OR must it only be thru feedburner?
NOTE that i'd already burned a feed for my forum on feedburner.com

Just make sure that before you edit any templates, make a backup copy of them first.

And all the questions regarding mods/themes are best asked at their appropriate support topics as chances are that there you will get faster help.
