gregh

BTW I am having what appears like the same problem on Linux...

Do you see errors if you try to uninstall a Mod??

Rumbaar

dansmark have you tried turning off the process of creating ~ backup copies and see if that helps?

I guess you are taking about the "Forum Maintenance", "Scheduled Tasks"?

I'm not sure where other than there.

Or the database on the server.

Got it, but just to update you on my other problems...

When I un-check the "save with a tilde" option, the system refreshes, but the check mark is still there.
I can do a manual refresh and it disappears (like it's suppose to).
It seems my version of SMF 2.0 RC1-1, doesn't update any option, and I always have to do a manual refresh to verify the options has "taken" in SMF.
(I can give you some examples later if you want).

Back to this problem...
After un-checking the "save" option, I tried to "un-install" the mods I've installed.
I get an error.  All checks failed!  So I can't un-install any of them.
I tried to re-check the "save" option, and un-install, but that didn't work either.
So now I can't "un-install" any mods...

Do you think my "Host" has changed my write & modify permissions?

Rumbaar

The checks failed could be a number of things, but it could be host related.  Seems like most times it is.

But there was a link at the bottom of that thread I linked to previously, though not much help if it's an underlying issue
[Support] Package Manager mod install, Test Failed error

I hope we can get this "fixed".
I can't even upload images, and my members really are wanting that feature...

Rumbaar

Well that looks like a system wide issue with your host.  Really looks like permissions issue.  Are you able to install a totally fresh separate new install of SMF and see if you get same results?  Then we can rule out any modifications you might have done as the cause.

What is in your error logs?

This install is the 3rd fresh install, trying to get SMF to work correctly.
I'm on a Windows server.

Should I delete the logs and start logs over, or post the logs I have...

There are 10844 logs in the "error logs"...
All errors (10844) |  Critical (16) | General (8599) | Undefined (2219) | User (10)

All "crtitcal" errors deal with image uploads.
I haven't looked at all the rest.

It may be the "host" support team don't get the correct permissions.
The last time the support person said they gave me write & modify permissions.

I have another forum that hasn't been used by anybody other than me.
It has the same issues.

I can give you "admin" access if you need it.
Next step?

Rumbaar

Wow, that is a lot of errors and I'm sure indicative to the issues you are having.

Try pasting the critical errors, no duplicates here, and see if we can try and identify the cause.  You shouldn't be getting those kind of errors on a fresh install and a properly configured host.

I will post them after I go through and get rid of duplicates (might can get to it tomorrow).
Also, I'll give my host a call tomorrow to make sure the write permissions are set correctly.

I sure appreciate the help!
Thanks!

Rumbaar

Well I'm sure checking permissions is one of the points in that original thread I posted :)  You can try clearing all errors and then progressing from that as you tried to do things.  To make sure you get current applicable error messages.

I'm starting to work on it now...

I found that most errors are exactly like "p1."
There are some exceptions, but they relate to permissions.
I'm contacting my host now.

Here are a few of the errors:

723 pages of error logs.
I'm getting 1 log every 10 pages.

p1. (90% is this one)

I had a support tech guy go through and check for write permissions (and give it if it didn't have it) on "every" directory.
He said all files inside each directory also took on the "write" permission as well.

Also, I had him give "Packages" and "upload_tmp_dir" (I was advised to make this directory by a SimpleMachines support specialist, for image uploads) modify permissions.

Should I erase all logs and start over?

After any changes in attempt to fix issues, it can be good to start a "fresh" and see what errors you still get, if any.

How you can help SMF

dansmark

OK!
All write permissions are set to ALL directories.
I have 3 mods installed, but don't seem to register with SMF.

What do you want to try?
