Hi, i want to change the database prefix of an existing forum.

Do i just need to update the prefix setting in admin -> configuration -> server settings ->  database and paths -> table prefix and then change the prefix of the 63 tables via phpmyadmin or do other settings / rows need to be also changed?

Whats the best way to change the prefix i did a search and found this method, is it the best way:

RENAME TABLE smf_members TO anotherprefix_members

Thanks in advance for any help

Doing that *should* do it for you. ;)

That makes me nervous :)

I'm worried about making the changes i mentioned and it seeming to work ok but later down the line whilst people are using the forum finding out there are problems or errors because i left something out. How would i find out exactly what needs to be changed to alter the database prefix.

Thanks in advance

The query you have should either work or give an error and not do anything at all! :)

Alternatively the operations screen for tables in phpmyadmin gives you an interface for renaming tables

Sorry i meant more to confirm only the 63 tables need changing as well as the config but no other settings, i ask because in wordpress for example you need to also edit some of the fields in the tables if you change the prefix.

Thanks

To change SMF's prefix, it only need to be changed in the Settings.php file (or via your admin panel, same thing), and rename the tables.  Nothing more.
