W3 schools also has HTML tutorials. HTML is used for the markup. CSS is used for the presentation. You really need a basic understanding of both. H3 is an HTML element, much like a div but used specifically for headings.

Really you need web dev tools if you are going to get into this. Which browser are you using?
Firefox.

Hiya  :)

These variants are very classy  :P

I was looking for something lighter for my own site though, I was wondering if you will be making anymore of them ?

I like the "Flagrant" theme by crip, red & grey title bars with very light blue/grey backgrounds, but prefer the default theme layout !

Any chance of one along those lines  :P

Not in a hurry. TBH I'm over Curve variants. I just made these as a promo for the release of Curve in RC2. If I do any more themes (and I will) they wont just be basic Curve variants. There are plenty of them around now anyway.

Paul_Pauline

I'll look forward to seeing them  :)

I just installed 2.0 RC3 on a test site I have, I wasn't going to bother till it went gold, but thought i'd take a look !

Gotta say the themes about are a bit disappointing, mostly rehashed from 1.1.xx, and mainly dark.

I used to have a dark theme, but have gone right off them now  :-\

I like dark themes sometimes. It largely depends on the lighting. If you're in a brightly light office dark themes don't work so well. Reflections off the screen are lethal for dark themes. Light themes handle that sort of thing a lot better. If you're kicking back at home and have less intense lighting or hardly any then dark themes can be really nice. I change themes depending on my mood.

Hiya  :)

I decided to go with the Blue_Steel, I really like it, and as it's a default variant it's a win, win, situation as regards mods  :P

Can I pick your brains over one thing ?

I would like to set the board width to 75%, and use a fixed image as a background so the board slides over it.

I know how to do this in 1.1.xx, but in 2.0 the background is in more than one part  :-\

So I would like to know how I can completely remove the background without touching the board itself, and replace it with one image if this is possible ?

Thanks, Paul.

I recently upgraded to 2.0 R3 and I'm proud of myself because I did not have a whole lot of problems.  I have 2-3 mods installed, and it seems as if the default core theme is the only one compatible with the Mods I have installed.

I want to keep the original default theme, which I am using now   I would like for my members to have a choice of that theme, and your theme:  http://www.councilofexmuslims.com/labyrinth/index.php?theme=5 [nofollow]  (The Prince of Darkness)
This is the file I attempted to upload:
Prince_of_Darkness.zip (302.75 kB - downloaded 114 times.)
I downloaded the theme and tried to upload to my SMF forum and I get this message:

An Error Has Occurred!
Package upload failed due to the following error:
"Although the package was downloaded to the server it appears to be empty. Please check the Packages directory, and the "temp" sub-directory are both writable. If you continue to experience this problem you should try extracting the package on your PC and uploading the extracted files into a subdirectory in your Packages directory and try again. For example, if the package was called shout.tar.gz you should:
1) Download the package to your local PC and extract it into files.
2) Using an FTP client create a new directory in your "Packages" folder, in this example you may call it "shout".
3) Upload all the files from the extracted package to this directory.
4) Go back to the package manager browse page and the package will be automatically found by SMF."

What am I doing wrong, do I need to download and combine it with these 2 files   ( Prince_of_Darkness_PSD_ Files.zip [nofollow] (147.23 kB - downloaded 300 times.) and (menu_gfx_psd.zip (34.26 kB - downloaded 230 times.)

Thank you

PS... all my other themes I have uploaded, had no problems.

You don't use the package manager for themes. I know that sounds a bit silly (and we have considered changing it for future versions of SMF) but the package manager only installs mods.

To install themes use the options under Configuration > Themes and Layout > Manage and Install > Install a new theme. :)

ETA: and the PSD files are not for installation. They are layered graphics files for use in Photoshop.

I have no idea why I was trying to install it in the mod (package section)... I will blame it on me being up all night... but thank you, it's working fine.  Attempting to see if I can make the Ad-mod work....
Antechinus, you are a genius... the Ad-mod is working perfectly in the other Themes....  Thank you so much.

DirtRider

Antechinus you have done a great job with these themes. I just wish you would do a few lighter ones as well  ;D

Nice job. Was thinking of that but haven't used FW enough to get it all together. I've been meaning to do an xcf version for GIMP too.

If Antechinus doesn't object, I'll probably post RC4 versions of them soon since I'm updating them for my own use.

hartiberlin

Yes, please post this, I also need this.
Many thanks.

Is there also an option to have a fixed background picture and the forum text is transparent over it ?

Many thanks.

Regards, Stefan.
