Maybe i just need to get some sleep already   but methinks the topic starter chooses the message icon (light bulb/thumb up/etc), not the thread icon.

The latter one would be absolutely perfect. Don't take up much space and it's easy to understand. The transparent wouldn't work in all the browsers. And who can make a copyright of a + sign?

Guys, this is why it isn't being done for all states.  If the thread is locked or sticky it will not be done.

if you still want to show something, just put a new image beside the [new] icon, will be easier than changing message icon, or topic icon

Something has to be shown even in threads that have been read.

I should remove the treadicons "Sticky Poll", "Locked Sticky Topic" and "Locked Poll" from the legends on the index-pages. Users are smart enough to understand that a poll icon with a lock means a closed poll.
The more buttons, icons and links are on each page, the more it's hard to use SMF for newbies.

If the icons will not be removed, add an icon "locked sticky poll"
