A really great post, full of informative links, could make a really great announcement. Except that all the BBCODE is stripped from announcements...

One option would be to allow full HTML, along with image links back to the board.
Another option would be to allow rendering as for "print", with the URLS in parenthesis next to the link text.

What version are you referring to? There's some stuff in 2.0 about allowing emails to go out in HTML format, rather than just text (which is what happens in 1.1 IIRC)

Another reason to get over my fear of upgrading to 2.0.

Can this request be considered solved, seeing the features of SMF 2.0, or if not, can you please tell what may be missing and still useful?

Please do not mark this request as solved.

SMF2.0 RC3 strips [url= as well as all other BBC from "Announce Topics" emails.

It would be a great feature if "Announce Topics" could be used to send topics as emails -- pretty much exactly the way the appear in the browser. That would mean turning bbcodes into HTML instead of stripping them.

Announce Topics is a very convenient feature. It turns a topic into an email.  It would be even more convenient if Announce Topics preserved formatting and links when it did that.

Thanks for considering this request for a feature in some future version of SMF.
