So as it say my site was hacked. The guy trashed my sql databases for SMF and for phplist and killed my admin account and left some lame messages.
I tried to do the restores and they gave me errors after the restore was done so I paid my host Reseller Zoom to it and after 7 days they managed to get it to the same point I arrived at with out their help the first day :o

Fanastico shows that it is SMF version  1.1.10  yet I am certain that I had already upgraded to 1.1.11

So my restore was from 3 months earlier and theirs was from the beginning of this month and yet both give the same errors.
---------------------------------------------
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
----------------------------------------------

The MySQL Databases utility in Fantastico gives the following when I click the check BD button
----------------------------------------
Checking Database

wildexpr_plst1 is now being checked.

wildexpr_plst1.phplist_admin error : Table upgrade required. Please do "REPAIR TABLE `phplist_admin`" to fix it! wildexpr_plst1.phplist_admin_attribute error : Table upgrade required. Please do "REPAIR TABLE `phplist_admin_attribute`" to fix it! wildexpr_plst1.phplist_admin_task error : Table upgrade required. Please do "REPAIR TABLE `phplist_admin_task`" to fix it! wildexpr_plst1.phplist_adminattribute error : Table upgrade required. Please do "REPAIR TABLE `phplist_adminattribute`" to fix it! wildexpr_plst1.phplist_attachment error : Table upgrade required. Please do "REPAIR TABLE `phplist_attachment`" to fix it! wildexpr_plst1.phplist_bounce error : Table upgrade required. Please do "REPAIR TABLE `phplist_bounce`" to fix it! wildexpr_plst1.phplist_bounceregex error : Table upgrade required.
----------------------------------------------------
and it goes on for a full page.

If I try and upgrade the database from 1.1.10 to 1.1.11 it fails saying
---------------------------------------
Upgrading...

Initializing Parameters - Done.

Upgrade failed

The database wildexpr_smf1 is not working properly and the creation of a database backup file has failed. Please contact the sysadmin for further assistance. Include this message for reference.

The initial installation has not been modified.
-----------------------------------------------------

now I can run the repair utility in the MySQL Databases utility but I tried that before my host did the restore and although it made the errors listed in the MySQL Databases utility disappear but the forum still did not launch although I can not remember if the error message changed.

Anyhooooo

I was just wondering if my little story made anything jump out at any of you folks as the possible cause of all of this.  I guess what confuses me is that the forum was working fine at the beginning of the month so if the directory and the database have been restored why doesn't it work?

thanks for any ideas

cicka

Can you check the Settings.php file to see if it contains the correct database information of the database where your host restored your backup? You can do so either manually or by running the repair_settings.php tool. If the database information is correct then you should contact your host because there is something wrong with their mysql servers.

thanks for the help  :D

Oddly enough it was my sql database user account. I deleted it and remade it and the site came to life.

Thanks for taking the time to lend a hand. Much appreciated  :)
