The permissions have changed, I could see where they change. I'll contact my host for that.

I went ahead with the upgrade to 1.1.12 again since I get this display error with either 11 or 12 now. I figure there is a conflict with a mod, but not sure which mod. I am attaching my display.template file for someone well-versed in code to look at it and see if any problems are found.

MrPhil

Yes, by all means confirm that permissions are what you actually changed them to. Many servers are now configured to silently ignore permission change requests from FTP clients -- you have to go into your hosting control panel to change permissions.

I presume that the /messageboard directory is something installed by some mod? You might get better support in that mod's discussion area. Anyway, check the directory and file permissions -- they should look much like any other SMF directory and file's permissions (typically 755 and 644 respectively). Certainly, 777 is to be avoided -- your host might be denying access if it's 777. There's a slight possibility that your host has "mod security" enabled, which is blocking access to certain named directories or files.

QuoteForbidden
You don't have permission to access <filename> on this server.
Can you tell if it's a 401 or 403 error? I'll assume that this directory isn't password protected, so most likely it's a matter of permissions. I believe that this message uses the site HTML root as /, rather than the filesystem root. Anyway, is it looking in the right place for this directory (e.g., it's not really supposed to be looking in /forum/messageboard)? That would indicate a configuration problem, although I would think you'd get (only) a 404 error if you were looking in the wrong place.

QuoteThere are 300 error messages saying various files do not exist.
That sounds serious. Are they for any specific group of files, or one directory, or is there no rhyme or reason to them?

xiphirx

Are you sure the files actually exist? Are you looking in a custom theme folder rather than the default theme folder?

No. I'm looking at the default folder.

No. I'm looking at the default folder.

Can we see some errors from the servers error log?

MRM4

Here are some.

Okay, so there's nothing specific to display.template.php...

However, when I visit
http://mrmracing.net/messageboard/Themes/default/Display.template.php

I get a 500 error. Please check the error log and post what I have caused :P

MRM4

This is the last error message:

The user xser1994 with Email [email protected] (IP 184.82.39.40) is a Spam, please contact forum administrator.

I didn't see anything pertaining to that link. I'll look again in a few minutes to see if the log needs to catch up.

MRM4

Is there any way possible to do a fresh install and import members and posts from the old install into the new install? I'd hate to ask everyone to register again.

xiphirx

I'm quite sure there is, however I am no expert in that :(

MRM4

I tried doing some thing and it didn't work and put everything back as it was. Got everything fixed except for some of these messages not fully displaying.

MrPhil

Get yourself a /favicon.ico file and you will get rid of 95% of your errors. See my sig > FAQs > Missing Support Files.

MRM4

Under my control panel, it said the language was English-utf8. I clicked the link in the maintenance section to convert the database to English-utf8 and it seems to have fixed the problem some people had with their message not being fully displayed. I think this pretty much takes care of it. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

JimM

Glad you got it resolved.  I'll mark this one as solved.  If for some reason you have further issues, feel free to unmark it.
