One question roxpace.  What does having the version number in the footer have to do with including the version of SMF you are having problems with when asking for support?  Two different things.

The last phpBB worm never checked the version number anyway, which caused load issues for people who had the exploit patched since it simply acted as a dos attack. In any case, at least if that worm had checked the version number, at least a lot less people would have been affected.

During my last 14 years on Internet ? Many, but none successful ever, the worst failback was maybe my own fault for many years ago, but that aint a hacker, that was the dumb me not verifying a backup.

That forum is old and why there is no version there ?  No idea, I think it is using a standard template, can of course ask the person who installed the templates and the upgrade and about it, but I think it was default and I will absolutely get it switched to something else later, maybe SMF ?  or own written, but I would prefare SMF since I like it most.

Roxspace,
Have you suffered a hack yourself?

I ask because I noticed that you are using a forum at

Version 1.06 & TP 0.8.6 and am scared to upgrade.  ;D ;D ;D ;D  Cause I am sure I will do it all wrong and mess it all up somehow. The actual forum had to force me to upgrade to version 1.05 to 1.06 the other day or I wouldn't have even done that.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Best advice is to always take a back-up before you make any alterations, then if it all goes wrong you can just restore the backup to keep your forum running while you work out what went wrong :)

Yes I do that before I do anything, but then I always worry what if goes wrong and I can't restore the back-up properly then I will have two lots of problems instead of just one.   ;D ;D ;D

I will make sure I select my version of SMF whenever I ask for support here.
Regarding the issue of removing version numbers, how do you do it? The I looked at my index.template.php file, and all I can make of it is theme_copyright(), not the version number itself. how can I modify theme_version() to exclude version information?
