It's linked in my profile. Thanks for help guys.

That's exactly the forum I tried it on without any problems.

It wasn't working this morning for me when I was composing a message in the full editor.  And I have the same forum linked in my profile as forumite.

windows 7 64 bit firefox 5.0

when using WYSIWYG editor, the text is slightly moved down in the text box, when you right click to spell check you do not get the correct menu.

also tested in windows xp pro in virtualbox with the same results as above with firefox 5.

Hi,

I am getting the same thing on my site (www.3dphoto.net/forum).  I have FF5, Windows 7 64-bit.  Spell check was turned on and English/United States dictionary was already installed (though I reinstalled it to be safe).  This is only in WYSIWYG mode.  Others on my forum are also reporting it (not sure their config).

Just tested it on your site with FF5 newly installed here. Spell check worked just fine for me.

Using Win7 64-bit as well.

I just tried it again here on this Forum as well as on mine, and it only works in WYSIWYG if the cursor is well below the red squiggly line.  If the cursor is inside the misspelled word, it does not work in either Forum.

Why would that be?  Can you replicate yourself that it works only if the cursor is below the squiggly line?  I just tried it again by misspelling the word "line" in the last sentence, and I cannot get it to work again... very odd behavior, though I am thinking it is the browser.

Thanks,
Jeff

No problems here. It shows the squiggly line even if my cursor is right after the word, in the middle of the word, and even below the words while using the editor or not. Definitely sounds like a browser issue. But to say why it doesn't happen between your install and mine is beyond me.

Let me see if I have this right.

1. Spell checker in the full editor using Firefox worked with the previous release of SMF.

2. SMF version 2.0 is released and the spell checker doesn't work in the full editor for many people using the same Firefox version as before.

3. How is this a browser issue and not an SMF issue?  SMF changed, not Firefox.

I'm using the same exact browser and version of OS without the same problem. I'm not sure we can blame anything yet. But I'm trying to figure things out. How can you be so sure it's SMF when others have posted different results?

I feel it's SMF because others have reported the same results.  It will all go away when you release the version that's running here as something has changed in the code that fixes the problem in the gold ver. 2.0.

Illori

the version that is running here is a slightly older version then what is currently released as 2.0, which can be found on the download page.

NedF

That would explain why the beta versions didn't have the problem but the gold code did.  Can you formulate a test protocol for tracking this down?  I'll help any way I can as it is affecting a number of our users, not just me.  I can work around it, but others aren't as understanding :)

if it was that easy i think the developers would have a fix already, it seems that only SOME people can duplicate this issue and not everyone so we need to figure out why some can have this issue and not everyone first before we can even start to debug why it is happening.

easy fix is dont use the WYSIWYG editor as it does not work 100% anyway.

NedF

That's why I asked about a test protocol.  With an organized test, we can probably narrow down the source of the problem, wherever it lies.

Unfortunately, telling our users not to use the WYSIWYG editor isn't the answer.  Many messages have photos attached and that just can't be done with the quick reply.  If that feature were added, most would never need the full editor again.

Illori

you can go to the full view without using the WYSIWYG editor, which would fix the issue for those that use your forum

admin -> posts and topics disable WYSIWYG editor and they will get the normal editor when they go to the full post page.

NedF

I can hear the screaming already if we did that :)  Our sysadmin is monitoring this topic, so we'll see if he considers that a viable option until the problem is fixed.

I can confirm the same problem on this forum too (and 2.0 final and a sort of RC5/4/3).

FF4, Win7 32bit.

If you format (e.g. applying bold) a word or part of it then the spell check works properly, but only if the pointer is on the formatted part.

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

That is so weird.... no problems here with FF4 or FF5 for me on windows 64-bit though.

i just tested it again, ff5 win 7 64 bit, if you right click to spell check right on the word it will not show the correct menu, but if you right click further down the post box you will get the correct menu to show. so if you have more then one line of text in the post box, you can not get the correct menu to show at all.
