After searching I found this short explanation on how to move my site
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_do_I_move_my_SMF_board_to_a_different_host

But I'm wondering.

How do I prevent members from posting in the old forum while I'm moving?
Is it enough to set the forum in "Maintenance mode" or can members still post then?

I guess it would take some time to move the whole site.

And I have experienced problems with phpMyAdmin, that it don't support me creating all tables and contents in one batch. Is there a way to restore the database without chopping it up? Because I then might end up forgetting or cutting away some parts.

when in maintenance mode only those with access [usually just the admin unless you use a mod] can view the full forum. if you have a cpanel you can use it to do the database backup and input it on the new server.

wooh... that was fast!

;D

Ok, since I'm admin, I kind of wondered what the members see...

I have cPanel. But do I then just take each table for it self?
Since I'm having problems with importing the whole database in one file

btw, how do I know which tables I need?
Some modifications in 1.1.9 - 1.1.12 or something added some tables, and I'm not sure if I need them any more.
I can of course take them all first, then figure out which one to drop.

use the backup feature in the cpanel, you should be able to tell what to do once there. to see what a user will see when in maintenance mode just log out or go to your forum in another browser.
