Just add a "fixed" attribute to the background url in your theme's index.css file, eg

Code: [Select]
background: #131313 url(../images/theme/background.jpg) 0 0 fixed repeat;

Note, the above is just an example. Yours may well be in a "#bodybg {" section

If you can't find it, drop us a linky to your forum and we'll tell you what line to edit.

Using a picture, one would assume?

Just use something like:

Code: [Select]
body  { background:url(your-image.jpg) top right no-repeat; background-position:fixed; }
in your index.css file.

As shown, here:

http://davidwalsh.name/css-fixed-position-background-image

Demo:

Well each to his own preference really.

I do most of my messing editing using NotePad++ which is free to download and use.

A change to a css file (amongst others) can actually be made from within the Admin Control Panel, though I rarely make changes that way.

If you mean "Which file?"

in your index.css file.

It's in the theme's "css" directory.

now you are getting into actually editing theme template files....   and that's a bit more complicated, especially for someone who is brand new... it involves actual code changes in the index.template.php
Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Can I copy the code and you will tell if you know ?

The code of the index.template.php:
Code: [Select]
<?php
/**

 * @package SMF
 * @author Simple Machines
 * @copyright 2011 Simple Machines

/* This template is, perhaps, the most important template in the theme. It
contains the main template layer that displays the header and footer of
the forum, namely with main_above and main_below. It also contains the
menu sub template, which appropriately displays the menu; the init sub
template, which is there to set the theme up; (init can be missing.) and
the linktree sub template, which sorts out the link tree.

The init sub template should load any data and set any hardcoded options.

The main_above sub template is what is shown above the main content, and
should contain anything that should be shown up there.

The main_below sub template, conversely, is shown after the main content.
It should probably contain the copyright statement and some other things.

The linktree sub template should display the link tree, using the data
in the $context['linktree'] variable.

The menu sub template should display all the relevant buttons the user
wants and or needs.
