Hello,
you should add more diffrent forum themes to the official forum, so the  user can experiment with them.

Robert.

Hmm, I'd like to see an unique site theme, like in that one in 2008(?). :) But it's a good idea indeed, but it's would be great to have them fully operational (I mean with a site navigation)

Illori

due to the customizations needed to run this forum [theme wise] it would be too difficult for the team to manage multiple themes, most likely you will not see any additional themes added to this forum.

Illori

then do you want to help make sure all themes work with the custom changes we have here?

Illori

we dont support others themes on this forum, nor do we have enough people to create themes just for sm.org right now. it is hard enough for the team to keep up with the queue at this time.

Akyhne

What queue?! Mod and theme approval? Give me a break...

A theme doesn't have to be a brand new theme, it just has to look as one. A Curve edit is quick to do.

Meh... This site is our support and distribution site....   I see mo point in making it a demo site for multiple themes as well. There used to be a site which had installed every theme in the 1.1.x line... Don't know what happened to it though.

Yeah I do. I had approval access when I was on the team.

Multiple themes would be pain to maintain. If SMF does an update that requires themes to be updated each theme would need to be updated. And as stated any custom theme work would need to be applied to those themes.  Also it is a lot harder to take away a feature/theme than to add it so if the future a theme is no longer maintained and needs to be removed without upsetting a users here who would use it.

It would probably be manageable to do one or two variants of the default theme (ie: using the theme variant system), but not complete custom themes per se. This was actually discussed in the past, as a way of showcasing the built-in variant system of 2.0. Some people, especially those who suffer from migraines, find bright themes quite hard to use and prefer to use a darker theme.

Akyhne

I can't remember when a theme was last updated due to an SMF update.

Its so easy to talk...  err, I mean type  :P
Well for me it's easy to talk, type and make and maintain a theme at the same time. I'm actually maintaining +20 of them.

That's actually what I suggested.

Antechinus

I know. It was also part of a team discussion back in 2009 IIRC.

Norv

Thank you for the suggestion. IMHO it would be a good idea to install on the forum the official themes, once we update them and/or create others for 2.0, and advance with making them available to the community as well. At least, it seems to me the first obvious candidate to be featured on the site as well. :)

Norv, the official themes ARE available as selections here, already.

Those are the outdated versions, that may be better cleared out... (they remained installed after being removed from the main package). And we don't intend to have only two-three official themes (in perspective). The point is, featuring themes doesn't have to have anything to do with a demo site or with third-party themes, that would lead to maintenance problems on the site. However, supporting normally official themes can work, their designers collaborating with the site team, and we can look into that.
