Bots VS Browsers v1.1

Bots vs Browsers to Track User Agents Or Browser Agents by IP

Version: 1.2 Date 2014-01-26
Compatibility: SMF 1.1.5, SMF 1.1.6, SMF 1.1.7, SMF 1.1.5-1.1.9, SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1, SMF 2.0 Beta 4, SMF 2.0 RC2, SMF 2.0 RC3, SMF 2.0 RC4, SMF 2.0 RC5, SMF 2.0 - 2.0.7

What this package does: Searches the website botsvsbrowsers.com to detemine if an IP addres is a bot or a browser. If it is a bot, it will show 'X User Agents Found' on the page. If no user agents found from IP searched then the IP is from a user browser. ;-)

Configuration

Nothing to configure. Just open your Who's Online in SMF (logged in at the bottom of the Info Center). You will be taken to SMF's Track IP page. Click on an IP to search for. You will see a new whois-server, Bots vs Browsers IP Look Up Bots Or Browsers, has been added to your server list. Click it and you will be forwarded to botsvsbrowser page to determine if it is a bot (User Agent) or a browser (User Browser)! :)

Also most odd  :-\

If this is out of order then remove it but this is the stable version I have been running on 2.0.2 and before that 2.0.1.

Do you see a security issue with it why the download link is gone?

I am trying as we speak to get this going again. I am waiting to get access to the main mod page to update the mod with the newest file version ready to roll here. So far this is all I have access to at the moment. I will try again later to see if I am able to post the updated files on the mod page as needed. I have a feeling I am going to back to where I started. I was not able to change the version of the mod due to something with simplemachines processing of updated files and version numbers. It would take the NEW version and I was told I had to deal with another 'department' and I got fed up getting the run around.

It's already been done. It was removed because the file was previously removed.

But as for the 'run-around', I'm sure you can understand that we have to do things with respect to withdrawing files that we knew were broken...

Yes I previously removed it when no one could answer me why the mod site kept rejecting my updated version of the file. So then if it is already done, why is it I still cannot attach the updated file to the main mod page? I even see the mod name is spelled wrong. The word Browsers is spelled wrong.  :-[ Opps...

I'm the one who removed the mod when I saw there was no file, I'm the one who reinstated it after requesting it - it's there.

There are some issues with white screens and whatnot but it should still actually process the upload and changes you make... even if it then gives you a white screen.

No, you press the edit button on the mod's page. It's cunningly hidden next to the title in the header bar...

Here is the issue I get when trying to upload.
An Error Has Occurred!
The package id given in the uploaded file does not match the package id given by previous versions of this mod.
Package id in database: Doc:botsvsbrowsers_1.1
Package id in the uploaded file: Doc:botsvsbrowsers_1.2

Can we change the Package ID in the Database to just Doc:botvsbrowsers and drop the version number?

[update]AWESOME! The new file is back and new version is updated to version 1.2![/update]

Do not know why anyone would want to do that? All bot traffic is not 100% bot as it could have been triggered by a user using a hack tool. It was reported 51% of traffic is now from bot in 2013. Of that 31% search engines (i.e. the "good" bots) and 4.5% of the 51% is from hacking tools (user driven / triggered). If you feel you want that IP banned, you have the means to do it manually yourself.

I do not want to be blamed for banning valid user traffic.
